On to the next part. After seeing the the multi-meter probe the fan relay, the wiper motor must have decided to throw in the towel. The fuse is good and the white wires in the middle connection have current when the key is on. The other two wires change from open to ground when the switch is moved. The washer pump wires power an aftermarket pump when the switch is pushed.

Am I missing anything or is it replacement time?

If so, can the motor be removed from the mounting hole far enough to remove the nut on the arm or do I have to remove the screen covering the cowl vent?

Any recommendations on a source for the motor?

 

It's doubtful the motor just died. You don't say what year + model it is, but most like ly the screen needs to be removed. You might be able to get the nut off w/o removing it, but you will never get it back on. DON'T CUT THE SCREEN... many peeps cut the screens 'cuz it's easy, replacement screens don't fit right. If you are lazy, you can just release half the screen. Once the motor is out you can bench test it.

 

Oh yeah, it's a 71 Cutlass Supreme. I have jumpered power and ground directly to the motor, still no dice. I won't be cutting the screen. Do the little push pins holding the weatherstrip and screen down come out nice enough to reuse or does removing them destroy them?

 

71 Cutlass, ok...Google Willcox Corvette wiper motor test. There is some great info + pics there on testing motors. You might be able to do it in the car. The pegs if plastic should come out and be re-useable. If metal, sometimes they break. Only do as many as you have to, to get the nut off. You can use a door panel clip tool, or maybe needlenose opening just enough to get on either side of the clip.

 

I have a '71 CS also and want to refurb my wiper motor but I don't see any tabs or clips holding the rubber over the screen. I've looked and looked but nada. I'm 99% sure it's all original. Could the rubber have been installed with adhesive?

 

There should be clips. I've seen 2 types, metal and plastic. Slide something thin like a putty knife under the rubber until you hit one. Then come from the other direction, you will find the clip pin is about 3/8" wide. You need something to get on either side of it and pry upwards. Some weatherstripping opens at the rear edge and you can get the clips from there. The clips are maybe 6" apart.
