Thanks guys, I really appreciate the support.

I was talking to the detective last night and there was another guy in the area that had a 67 Mustang fastback stolen from the front of his house when he went inside for a few minutes. A few days apart

I will try all the usual places for posting also, so thanks for any ideas.

VIN# 33687M398495

Factory 8 Track, it only has a head rest on the passenger side (I replaced the seat cover and never got to putting the head rest back on). Pretty much a stock W-31

Was locked in a locked garage with the house alarmed. Go figure.

Thanks again

Man that is a sweet looking car! I can see why someone was eying it for the wrong reasons.
So they made a forced entry into your garage? I sure wish you were there with 12ga in hand...
Very sad.
Hope it is found...

I had some rifraf following me several months ago and I have a feeling it was to find out where I lived. Luckily i lost the fool (and had fun burning some rubber, also...)

I really think we should make the punishment fit the crime!
Why incarcerate them with free housing, food and T.V. on our tax dollars!
They used to hang horse thieves, didn't they?
And they still chop-off hands of thieves in some countries!!
They got my '56 Chevy in "67 from Nicky's employee lot - recovered, but stripped!
Hope I catch 'em - lots of pent-up anger here!
Maybe why I've 8 Pits here!

So very sorry for your loss of a beautiful Oldsmobile! I know the feeling, having had our '92 Custom Cruiser stolen 3 years ago; found, and trashed, and expensive to repair. I still have thoughts of "if I had been there with my shotgun", etc. Think, if they were caught, now, would still do the same thing!!!

After reading about several car thefts on the Hamb, this theft, and the trailer theft on another thread I am going to put some security measures on my Olds so at least they can't start it and can't get gas to the carb and maybe a few other surprises. This is turning into a epidemic

A kill switch will help for a theft while going on trips or around town but most of the high value/classic vehicles stolen from residential areas especially from inside the garage are commited by repo style tow trucks/wheel lifts and are soon trailered to be chopped for parts or shipped overseas.

A Monitored garage alarm by ADT/Pit Bulls/12 Gauge or a Lo-Jack/GPS type device would be effective as well.
Downside to Lo-Jack/GPS devices they work off towers and sometimes difficult to track.

OldcarMechanic I'll keep and eye out for it in SE Florida.
Hope you get it back.

I'm so sorry Ron, I linked to the stolen hot rod link on facebook. I really hope it's found soon!

There's something about that 12 gauge monitor alarm that just sounds sweet.

Sorry for you loss. I have an anti theft device that goes around the brake pedal. They may get it started and in gear, but they aint stopping it!! It can't be cut or shot off. They'll have to use a cutting torch to remove it. I know it sounds paranoid, but I have been thinking about maybe buying a police boot as well.

they make some that are the same concept, but instead of locking on your brake it locks on your gas pedal. Maybe some fool wont realize it doeesnt have brakes and wreck it :X

Thanks again folks. I really do appreciate the support.

I like the 12 gauge but it only workds when you're there. I have a 38 Police Special but I need the culprit.

I never liked the things like steering wheel lock bars but they sure look good now. Hind sight is always 20/20. When I lived in Chicago I always made sure the car was disabled and in more then one way. I also had a padlock on my overhead door. A bad mistake here on this one.

The alarm went off but they were in and gone in a couple of minutes. I guess like the movie "Gone in 60 seconds". I got the call from the alarm company when I was about 3 minutes away. There was hardly any gas in the tank so I hink they had an enclosed trailer near-by. The cops were there in 5 minutes and put it out on the air right away.

Once more I thank you all for the support. The old car hobby is alive and well.

Peace
Ron

I will post this on Wild About Cars and the Olds Performance Club. Two things to consider aboout thse type of thefts. 1) Have you had any service personnel in/around you home recently? Did you have an appliance delivered/installed?

Apparently these thieves pay those type of people for info on rare cars, then they case you house and put out the word. The cars are stolen to order and usually shipped to Mexico or overseas.

So if you had anyone at your house recently, that's the place to start looking.

Another tip. When you show your car, cover the license plate(s) and the VIN and do not put your address on any posted information.

So sorry to hear about your loss. It is unimaginable...

Local dirt ***** hit me last week. They took the airbag out of my "regular" car parked in the driveway.

Then, either the same night- or two nights later they made a run at my garage (442 inside). It seems that garage doors are really easy to break into-

I am very lucky...

Oh man, this is terrible! Your Olds is gorgeous and I can only imagine how you're feeling right now. I've thought that I was securing my cars enough by padlocking the garage doors and unplugging the openers when we go away but obviously that's not enough since yours was taken with you so close to home! I'm going to rethink how I secure my cars now.

Best of luck in getting her back in one piece....I hope they get what's coming to them!!

Well, you all have guessed it. It is a terrible feeling but life does go on. I stay on the Hernando County Sheriff to see what's going on. I also keep a vigilant watch on all for sale sites.

No one was in the house prior to the theft other then my wife and I. We did have a community garage sale a couple of weeks earlier though and that is probably when they saw it.

It's an unfortunate matter of me not taking enough pecautions to secure the vehicle. The economy today has pushed people over the edge and they have become criminals. We now need to be more dilligent on protecting what is ours. (Wasp spray by the way, does work rather well)

I do believe that these were professional thieves. NOTHING in the house was touched. They knew what they wanted and time was limited. They never touched my Harley Heritage.

Thanks again guys. I'll keep you posted.
