'68 Cutlass Electric Power Trunk

I know that a '68 could have had a vacuum power trunk release. I see this type of electric latch on eBay all the time. Will this bolt in place of the standard manual trunk latch without any mods to the trunk lid?

Thanks,

Adam

I do not know for sure but I would think the electric trunk release works for a lot of years from 68 - 70 something. Hopefully someone with a 68 will chime in. though on 2nd look that doesn't look like the one in my 70

I though that too 68-72 always seems to be the magic years. I guess my concern is my latch is this one. It uses three bolts. Since the latches in the two pics are upsidedown to each other I am concerned that the bolt patterns are not the same.

I might get one and try my luck.

An electric latch from '70--'72 will fit '68...I also put a '70 latch into a '64 Chebby SS... no mods...

I got one of the power trunk releases I pictured above. It was almost a direct fit. The slot in my trunk lid had to be "expanded" anout 1/16" for half its width to allow the solenoid part (where you can see the part numbers) to slide in. It bolts in with only two bolts instead of three. I mocked up the wires quickly with a switch and it works perfectly. A very nice upgrade for under $30 parts and supplies.
