1970 cutlass no power after motor swap

Hey guys.

so I recently got done doing a motor swap on my 1970 olds cutlass and I went today to hook power up to the car to bump it over and I got nothing, no lights no horn nothing inside Or out side the cab. Did I miss a wire or something? I got the purple and the main power wire hooked to the starter and I cant get nothing to come on the battery has 12 volts so I’m really stumped on what’s going on

Make sure you have power at the horn relay bus connection.

Two questions:

1) did you put another Oldsmobile engine in it? If not, tell us what's in it so we can do proper diagnosis.

2) do you have the 1970 Olds Chassis Service Manual that has the wiring diagrams in it? If not you need one.

Power to horn relay
Ground to clean surface on block

Ground from rear of passenger head to fire wall

I always put a star washer between the ground cable and block. Ford does this from the factory.

Pretty sure every automaker does this.

Even a dead battery will register 12V

Try it.
As batteries discharge they dont lose V they lose the ability to push the volts (Amps).

They lose both voltage and amperage. A completely discharged battery is 10.5v.

There are about a bazillion ways to lose power during an engine swap. Get a test light and a wiring diagram and trace the circuit to find out where the power stops.

Since Billy hasn't logged onto this site since August 20th, 2022 @ 09:09 PM I suspect it's highly unlikely Billy is following along.

We "could" steal his thread and discuss Gibb's Free Energy Equation, Electrochemical Potential & Electrode Potential...or, not (my suggestion).

Took my opinion a bit too literally...
I have (what I call) a dead battery - won't turn the engine over, just clicks - and it registers 12 V on my MM. I didn't mean dead dead dead really. A fully charged healthy bat registers well over 12 V.
Some folks might think a 50% discharged bat measures 6V, 75% discharged measures 3V, and so on. That is not the case.
