When I was a pup, my mother would sometimes make peanut butter toast. More times than not, I would take a big bite and burn my mouth [slow learner]

I made me some this morning and thought about it before diving in. I guess it's the oil in the peanut butter that makes it so hot

Kenneth - I see where you're coming from. I enjoy the "go" as much as the "show". When I look at many of these cars it's from a nostalgic perspective. It's kinda like the baseball card collector that would like to own a Mickey Mantle rookie card because Mantle was his baseball hero. In some cases, it probably is a case of "bragging rights", but in other cases, it's an owner that just wants to own (be attached to and enjoy) a vehicle that brought him joy and excitement before money and status were part of the equation.

James - Is that honey on the slice of bread on the right? When I was in Grad school and living solely off the tiny stipend they were giving me to teach, I practically lived off of peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Truth be told, I probably spent more $'s on beer than I did food!

Chris, you have the right thoughts about that car- it wasn't meant to be...That is hilarious about Monte's proper name, when I was a kid my parents got a thouorbred dachshund , her proper name was "Lady Hildegard of Red Cedar" ! We called her Gretchen. About the buckets vs bench.... my 71 Cutlass 'vert has a bench. I was going to convert to buckets, even bought 2 sets of buckets and 2 or 3 broken ( in different places) consoles, and a non column shift steering column- bought all this stuff before prices went thru the roof. Anyway when I bought new upholstery thru Legendary 5 years ago or so, I made the final decision to leave it bench. It seems all the cars of any brand you see at events are buckets, I'm sure many of them were converted. I already committed the unforgivable sin of adding a OAI hood and duals with trumpets back in the day. Now that car is more valuable I wish I had left it stock, but it can go back easy enough.

Greg - Thanks for the comment on the W30, "that got away". Pretty hilarious about your childhood dachshund too! We bought both our dogs from the same breeder who purposely does not name the new pups with the AKC so the new owners can. We also wanted an English name for Maggie, her's is much simpler, and I know you'll know where it came from, "Nixon's Maggie Mae"

Good morning everyone.

Overcast and rain here and there, but not a bad temperature. Had a good time at the Awful house with everyone.

Funny what names dogs come with. When we got my first boy the pound named him Max. That stayed his name. When I got my boy and girl at the pound, they were named 55A and 55B. Actually not their names, I don't know what their names were, and I named them Sparky and Jetta. When I got Tiger, his name was Grizzle. I thought how stupid, what is a Grizzle. So he became Tiger. Named after the Brady Bunch. Years ago my neighbors got some wire haired dog from a pet store, and the pet store sent their information to some AKC people. They wrote and asked what they named the dog. They named her Christy Lane. The AKC people wrote back and said that was an unacceptable name, her name will be [xxxxxx xxxxxx]. My neighbors just laughed and never got in touch with the AKC people again.

Jamesbo I have that same problem with pizza. I get so excited about pizza I dive right in. Bad idea. Maybe that's why I like cold pizza so much, not as hazardous.

I have a doctors appointment this afternoon, so instead of doing a bunch of moving and getting sweaty and worn out, I'm going to spend the day packing boxes, and then after my appointment take some stuff over.

Got a few other things to do today. Better get to them. Hope everyone has a good Friday.

Greg - I wanted to comment separately about the column shift/bench seat issue. Interesting that with your mechanical skills and already purchasing the parts that you didn't end up doing the conversions? Do you care to share why?

When I first bought my '67, I thought I might want to have a column to center console shift conversion done on it at some point. After checking into the costs of nice OEM parts, I decided it was cost prohibitive for what it was worth to me. In '67, if you ordered the 4-4-2 option on the Cutlass Supreme, you got the buckets as part of the option package, which my car has. However, if you ordered the TH400 option, it automatically came on the column unless you additionally ordered the center console shift. What I didn't realize at the time when I purchased my car was, that the column shift would become such an interesting topic of discussion with spectators at cruise-ins and shows. Now, honestly, I am really glad I didn't pursue the column to center console conversion. '67 4-4-2's are very rare around this neck of the woods anyway, and the column shift makes it extra unique, which I love!

My Mother has a beagle, the beagle's dad's name had Alabama Flashlight in it. Her dog has part of its listing as "Isabella of Dogwood Mountain" (the latter of which is my mom's subdivision). Sweet dog, just distractable and an all consuming nose on one end and a hyperdrive on the other.

My 442 is column shift auto as well. I've never really been into the manual shifting of a floor shifter auto trans. Let the auto trans do its job for you. Please, bench seats allow women to sit close.

John - Pretty cool your '67 (it is a '67 correct) 442 is also a column shift. I wish there were production statistics that broke down the number of column shift autos vs. console in 67, but alas there are not, at least from everything I've seen.

My last dog I adopted. The gal had two dogs which were not getting along - a Rottweiler & a mixed-up Lab - they were both ~2 years old. She wanted someone to adopt the mixed-up Lab which I did. I was residing in Salisbury, NC at the time. The gal's house was located just off Jake Alexander Boulevard in Salisbury, NC. The adopted Lab's new name became Jake Alexander Boulevard.

James - I have no idea what I'm looking at - might help if one of the pictures was in focus though. Is that a boat lift plus a sling or what is it?

Well I just don't know. After my doctors appointment(which went well btw) I took a box and a handful of stuff over to the house. I think I was there a half hour. So much for getting in there quick so I can sell this place. I did poke around and start thinking of some things to do once I'm in there. The other guy hasn't been here in weeks. Says he's been tending to a sick brother. He said he'll be here this weekend. Hope he brings a big empty trailer.

Jamesbo when is the boat ramp guy coming to put in a ramp for your Amphicar. You know you're going to get one eventually.

Rain stopped so as long as I have a little time I'm going down to the garage to see what I can do there.

In honor of Norm's dog Jake Alexander: Very happy. I like his car.

Sorry Norm

Poor phone pictures

'll try to get better pictures tomorrow. It's a boat l llit. Basically the straps are attached to cables that wind around a pole with an electric motor

I’m still rather confused. You hired a boat lift guy to install a boat lift but you didn’t know he had installed the boat lift until you went to the boathouse and found it was installed. Is that what you mean? I completely missed what you were saying in that case. So, he installed the boat lift as you requested but you didn’t know he completed the job. OK I thought there was something “else” he installed.

So I can see a metal pole below the rafters with a motor at the end of the pole. So, that’s the lift with attached sling/cradle? I couldn’t really tell what I was looking at there. I thought maybe the sling/cradle was optional or something. Most lifts I’m familiar with are drive-on lifts which are metal and they lift the entire boat. Never really saw this type of boat lift.

As a native Floridian, I have seen my share of freshwater boat docks and hoists. They're typically a 110V motor of decent heft with a belt drive driving a much bigger pulley (both of these are horizontal) to the shaft of the big pulley, which goes up and has a worm drive driving a large gear around the main pole, which, according to polarity applied, turns one way or the other and winds/unwinds typically a cable at the bow, and two at the stern which go outboard to pulleys to hold either side of the stern securely. Gear reduction of probably 200 to 1, I'd imagine.

Typically, boat hoists are hooks which grab loops bolted onto the boat, but, I think that only works for probably boats and motors under 1000 lbs total, then the hull can't take it. Fiberglass also matters over aluminum, I'd think. So, then, a cradle is used, permanently attached to the hooks, and the boat lands on it like a boat trailer. Those are more expensive, different to use (you run up on them like a boat trailer as opposed to floating around while hooking up cables to the hull) and you have to have deeper minimum water to launch.'

Edit, there's also the uncommon sort of in between, with the boat sitting on webbing load straps going under it from hook to hook.

Norm, Koda,

Around here the top part of the lift are pretty much the same. The bottom can vary
Mine is 2 straps. Others have solid wood or aluminum.

Norm to clarify. I placed the order but didn't know he had started ( much less completed) the work

When it's light I'll get more pictures

James/Koda - Thanks for the explanation & clarification. That's pretty cool. This morning I thought if I had ever seen a stationary lift like this before & one thing came to mind. I watched a YouTube video highlighting an outrageously gorgeous boathouse quite some time ago - it may have been on your lake, James. The boathouse was fantastic and the boats inside were drop-dead gorgeous - Chris-Craft (all wood) boats, a salon boat, several other boats I don't recall the names of, a couple of original Old Towne wooden canoes maybe a couple more boats. I think there were three drive-in bays (slips) inside the boathouse. Each bay was long enough to accommodate two boats (bow-to-stern) so I guess it could accommodate six boats in the water at one time - two boats/slip x three slips = six boats. Many high value unique pieces of equipment ordained the inside walls of the boathouse & the boathouse was two stories tall - it appeared to be ~50' to ~60' tall IIRC. Again, thinking if I'd seen this type of lift, the person who owned the boathouse then demonstrated how he could maneuver the location(s) of each boat inside the boathouse with ceiling mounted lifts. I'm not going to remember this exactly, but he used something like your slip/hoist/cradle/lift to raise one boat, then he used another slip/hoist/cradle/lift at the same time to raise another boat; and, each slip/hoist/cradle/lift could be maneuvered (articulated) to move a boat from one slip to another slip - essentially over the top(s) of the other boats which remained in the water. I'll try to look it up later on or maybe someone has seen this elegant boathouse video, as well. It's kind of like a little privately owned boathouse museum.

James - I was certainly not downgrading your boathouse but simply find the boathouse I'd seen somewhere before with cradle/hoist/sling lifts. We've already viewed your excellent boathouse but not the lift you had installed. You'll have to admit that boathouse I posted is the Shiznits. About 17 boat lifts in there - OMG.

My neighbor has 500k in his boat house and another 509 k in boats and wave runners. I might have 30 total in mine and it basically does the same thing.

No offense taken

For 10 years I lived with an upside down semi strap keeping das boat out of the mud when the lake drops down

Good morning everyone.

Looks like the sun might make an appearance today. I need to do some mowing at the other house so that would be a welcome event.

Turns out my friend whom I wanted to help me move big stuff is working all weekend, so no moving big stuff for me. I might as well have gone back to work. Ah well, twist my arm to stay home.

I've seen that video of that boathouse before. Does he have colored lights underwater to make the water that color? There's a guy in Charlevoix, probably on the same lake, that has a huge boat with an Amphicar on the back. He has a lift that lowers the car into the water and then lifts it back up. I don't get it, if you have a lift to put your car into the water, why have the car, why not a boat that is not cramped.

Well now the day really needs to count. Better get moving. Hope everyone has a good day.

Tiger wanted to take a break early. I've been packing boxes and it doesn't even look like I've made a dent in all this stuff. After our snack I'll load up all the boxes and the mower and head on over.

That boat looks like the picture was taken moments before it flipped over backwards.

Pie looks good Jamesbo. I've been trying to get my Mom to make me a rhubarb pie but her excuse is always, rhubarb isn't in season. It's been out of season for years then.

Chris must have found a car show to go to. I haven't been to a show all summer. I know there has been some, I just never hear of any.

Okay break is over. Back to work.

Good morning everyone.

Must have been a heck of a Saturday. Lonely around here this morning.

Raining like a flat rock this morning. Of course it started pouring just as we're headed to the car, then it stopped once inside the Awful house. Then it started up again when it was time to leave, and stopped when we got in the house. Sheesh. Looks like it will keep it up all day.

Mowed the front yard at the house yesterday. The step counter on my phone said I walked 6 miles. The yard doesn't look that big. I was going to finish up today but not in the rain. I'll pack more boxes and maybe take them over, we'll see.

Well I swore off Walmart last week, but then realized no one else has my dog food, so I guess I'll go. It will be the regular Sunday mess, so at least I'll be prepared.

Hope everyone is doing well. See ya's all later.

Mike,
One day I checked my step counter before I left work. I got in the Jeep, drove home, and accumulated nearly a thousand steps by the time I got home. You’d think I was driving Fred Flintstone’s car.

Yes, it is a 67. Of that @12.5k total figure 442s with the th400, I would SWAG that, both being a muscle car, and coming stock with buckets, floor shifters were probably 2/3rds of them. If they were bench standard, it would have been more. The buckets / column shifter would be probably rare, as well as the 4 speed bench.

Kenneth is your Jeep a stick shifter? Maybe it was counting every time you stepped on the clutch. I know when I ride the stationary bicycle it counts all the pedaling.

So back in the day, did the dealers have to order each and every car, even for stock? I worked at a Chevy place in the 80s and they just had a form and ordered X number of cars that all came the exact same way. And most of them were either white or this awful dark purple color. If someone wanted something special, they got out a form and started checking boxes.

Just got back from Walmart. I should have stayed home and beat my head against the wall. It would have been more productive.

If they were bench standard, it would have been more. The buckets / column shifter would be probably rare, as well as the 4 speed bench.
John - Thanks for the info, I agree with your analysis. I have a chart that shows the breakdown of total trans types per body style (Holiday Coupe, Sport Coupe, etc.) for the '67 442's, that I got off of this site. I've seen it posted in 2 or 3 different threads, I don't know where it originated or it's validity.

Good afternoon guys,
Mike was right yesterday when he surmised I'd probably found a show to go to. I went to a smaller (probably 80 - 90 cars) show at a church about 25-miles from me. I went to this show last year and placed, so I felt a little obligated to go back. Kind of a funky format, there are no classes, all cars (classic and modern) are grouped together, and they only give out 3 places, but there is money attached to each place. Last year I thought there wasn't a chance in hell that I'd place and I ended up placing 3rd. Again this year, I didn't think I'd have any chance, and I was right. It was a beautiful day and nice atmosphere, and I had several great discussions with several owners and spectators.

Next Sunday is the Archway Old's Club's (OCA) annual all Old's Fun Show. Definitely going to make that one if the weather cooperates. There are several other shows next weekend too, I may try to fit two in, won't be that long before they start winding down for the season.

James - That chili sure looks good. I came in from mowing about an hour ago and got a shower, and now I'm starving. Are you making a big pan of cornbread to go with?

My wife has some fairly extensive oral surgery tomorrow in preparation for some implants down the road. I'm preparing myself for a not so fun day tomorrow!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
