I can't recall when or where this conversation came up, but it wasn't long ago. Someone, I don't even recall who - a pro golfer, amateur or whomever - hit an errant shot, the ball hit a spectator right in the mouth. Busted out 2 - 3 teeth, blood was shooting out everywhere. It's dangerous just to be ON a golf course.
Agree with all your points, common sense and prudence should certainly prevail for the amateur golfer. Unfortunately, we've all probably witnessed the knucklehead who's on his 6th beer by the 9th hole, and you can't fix stupid!
Chris - You can never fix stupid. And, it doesn't bother me in the least watching someone stupid take stupid risky shots. Honestly, I never drink while playing golf. It's highly unlikely anyone that hammered by alcohol is actually playing a game of golf. You make the bed you sleep in.
James - We do have some local rules w/in several of our groups. Most golf courses are not USGA/PGA manicured golf courses (ours certainly is not). If it were, you wouldn't find yourself in some of the precarious spots your ball ends up. Therefore, if the ball resides in the fairway, but is encumbered by say a large horse turd, camel turd, goose turd, mongoose turd, torn up golf cart rut, etc., or just a plain messed up lie - if the ball is in the fairway, you can roll the ball w/in one club length to take some relief (w/o penalty) - we take some liberties. I generally never play this rule, but I have under some really, really $hitty conditions - but not often. I have a couple of standing bets with a couple other players and we are not always matched together, but we play the "ball down" - it's just how we like to play the game. It's a more fair performance we believe. If the ball resides in the rough, you get no relief. But, as I hinted earlier I've seen some players take unbelievable relief to hit their ***** out of the rough - they're not all that great anyways and then when (if) they have a good (great to them) game, they're all about themselves and I'm sitting their in chagrins.
We have this one **** knocker who NEVER stops talking - drives me and several other members bonkers. This same **** knocker bends over to examine his ball after every single shot, fluffs up the grass and places his ball ever so nicely on top of his fluffed up fairway tee. What a douche nozzle. I can't make this stuff up.
Oh yeah - we have a standing local "root rule" anywhere the ball resides. You are entitled to move your ball no closer to the hole and w/in 2 club lengths of any visible roots. No one wants a broken wrist for sure, for sure.
Yes Chris, the track is on US 131 near Martin Mi. Also in Michigan was Milan Dragway, near Milan Mi, which just closed this year, and Mid Michigan Motorplex which is near Stanton, Mi which is also known as... you guessed it... Stanton Dragway. There are also I think 3 others left. Like other states there were a lot more strips back in the day. (50's 60's 70's).

Greg - Glad to see that old track is still in operation. I have great memories of going there with my Dad and younger brother in the 60's and 70's. I had a great uncle (Dad's uncle) that was big into building and racing stock cars. We went fairly regularly to Galesburg Speedway to watch him race.
Good morning guys,
Very chilly morning behind a front that moved through during the night. Woke up to frost on the deck furniture.
No, not really, but the tiny beads of water, that must have come from a misting rain, sure looked like frost glistening in the sun on the fire pit cover. My wife had been wanting a gas fired fire pit for our deck for some time, and recently found a great buy on one that fits our space nicely. It will be nice to sit out there in the evenings as the weather starts to cool off. The glass box on top is a wind deflector that can be used when it's very breezy, or easily lifted off when it's not.
Well, I have no big plans for today, just playing it by ear. Hope everyone has a great day!

You left out I-475 between Hill and Bristol, and the new Dort Highway extension. Oh, those aren't sanctioned strips??
Good evening guys,
Yesterday I had mentioned Monty and Maggie had vet appointments. Maggie was due for her rabies and distemper vaccines, and Monty for his bordetella vaccine. They were both due for a fecal check. We asked the vet if she would take a look at one of Maggie's front paws she had been licking excessively at, while she was in there. Wow, a $330 bill! Vet couldn't find anything wrong with her paw, but they put some antibiotic between her toes. The vet did say she was about 3-lbs. overweight, and said she needed to go on a diet. We knew that and had actually started her on a diet a week ago. So far we've just eliminated the fatty type treats and hope that does the trick. She said Monty was a picture of health. Hard to believe, but he will actually be 5 tomorrow, doesn't seem possible! Speaking of health, all my lab work came back fine, with all my numbers either steady or in most cases better than last year. I actually dropped my overall cholesterol by 28-points, woo-hoo, I went out and celebrated with a large DQ Blizzard!
Nothing whatsoever exciting today, pretty darn boring, but that's not all that bad sometimes, especially after the running we did on Monday and Tuesday. Hope everyone had a great day!

And here I am waiting for sub-100 degree temperatures.
Kenneth - After visiting the area around Green Valley several times where some of my Mom's family lives, I actually thought I might want a 2nd place in AZ one day, but after seeing the temps you've endured over the last couple years I've definitely rethought that. Maybe a place in northern AZ wouldn't be too bad. It's definitely way too hot around you for me to enjoy riding my bikes very much, and too hot to enjoy my car too with no A/C. Still thinking of putting a Vintage Air unit in my car even for temps around here. I feel for ya brother! Are you having any thoughts of moving to a more temperate climate?
That salvage yard fire made the news up here. Well, I put a shift preference slip in last week, to go to first shift, and I was notified that I will go on Monday. There will be only one person under me sonority wise, but four people are retiring on first shift between now and December, so hopefully I'll get a couple more under to create a buffer. I usually go to bed between 3-3:30 am currently, it will be rough as I will be getting up at 5 am now. 5 hour energy drinks for the first couple of weeks.

Dan - Congratulations for making it to the 1st shift, hopefully you will be able to leave the vampire life in your rear view mirror. When my girls were pre-school age I purposely worked 2nd shift hours so they didn't need to be in day care all day. I'd get home at 0100, and my ex-wife would leave for work at 0600. I would have them until 1500 when a sitter would come over for an hour and stay with them for the hour between shifts until my ex got home. The girls were only 15-months apart, so I had two in diapers for about a 3-year period. I think it was the longest 7-years of my life until they were both in school and I went back to 1st shift. I don't think I ever got more than 4-hours of sleep a night except for the weekends.
Dan, glad to see your got on 1st shift.
Boy, could I rant on and on today! I finally got a new electric wiper motor kit for my 56 F100. Went to put it together and things aren't made right. There are 2 clevises that are sposta fit together, using a stud that is flat on 2 sides going thru a hole on other bracket that is the same shape, then a nut goes on holding together. Well they don't fit together at all. Oh, and this has to be assembled up under the dash, it can't be sub assembled first because it has to have the arm from the drivers side captured by it. Well I filed the shaft and got it to fit, but then when putting together under the dash it went crooked and I ended up pulling the threads on the shaft! UGH!! On and On well Now I have ordered new parts, I'm sure they will be just as bad. I am going to look at that thread about parts that just don't fit, I've never looked at it before...OK enough of that.
F-250 safety inspected, minor ext. house paint touch-ups & set up for more fence staining - but, a small rain shower is beginning. If it continues it means working on the clothes dryer, I’d rather it stop raining.
Chris, My wife would call them 'Irish twins" of course she Irish catholic and the baby of 9
Any woman that has five or more children closely spaced should be nominated for sainthood. My Grandmother on my Mom's side had six, and she was a Saint, sweetest, kindest, most unselfish and giving woman I ever knew! I can't imagine having 9 kids in a house!
Greg - I hope the new parts fit when they come, I know it's extremely aggravating when you pay good money for something and it comes damaged or not as advertised!
Grandma on Mom's side, between the age of 18 and 40, delivered 14 children (two sets of twins). She died of a heart attack at the age of 45. My Mom was the third youngest, her sister Lucy was the second youngest. They lived on a farm most of their lives (they lost their farm to the Great Depression). Besides the ton of daily cooking, cleaning & shores the girls (five of them) did each day, at night just before sleep they would take hot bricks from the wood burning stove/oven & wrap them into the bottom of the blankets for their brothers when they went to bed. Winters can be bone-chilling cold in Wisconsin....for a long time.
Norm, I have a bed warming pan. Same principle, only fill with ashes and run it on top of the sheets to warm them and NO the super model has ever done it for ,me

Good afternoon guys,,
Well today is NIXON'S LORD BERNARD LAW MONTGOMERY'S (Monty`s AKC Registered Name) 5th birthday. We wanted an English name and we named him after the famous WWII British Field Marshall, Bernard Law Montgomery, who was nicknamed Monty. Fun fact for the day, Montgomery was Knighted by the Queen 3 times for his battlefield heroics. A commoner Knighted once is titled Sir, Knighted twice you are a Baron, and Knighted 3 times you become a Lord, hence the Lord title in his name. Monty got a stuffed raccoon squeaky toy for a present (of course Maggie got one too), and they both shredded them, and had pulled the stuffing and squeaker out within 10-minutes. They can destroy almost any regular dog toy in a matter of minutes! God only knows how many $'s we've spent on toys to be destroyed in one day!
Well, I can post this now, because the discussion of a possible deal has been eliminated by the car being sold. I had my eye on a '72 4-4-2, W-30 Holiday Coupe that had been advertised on here by a person by the name of Jason. It was unique in that it had a bench seat and column shift, and it was dark green with white hood stripes, many of you probably saw the sale thread. I had already cleared the possible purchase with the wife, and had cash in hand, but when I texted him with a few questions about the car, he informed me it had sold, and he had forgot to update the ad. Que Sara Sara! I was gonna have to sell at least one of my bikes to make room for it anyway. It was a really nice W-30 car for $44.9K based on what they've been going for over the past year, if you didn't mind the column shift/bench seat combo. I'll be kicking myself for awhile for not pulling the trigger sooner!
Well, I hope everyone had a great day and has a relaxing evening!
Got home a little while ago and went to get Tiger. He did fine in the new place and everyone loved him. We're just going to take it easy tonight and go to bed early.
My friend and I accomplished quite a bit, but not what we set out to. He wanted to put a lowering kit on the back of his pickup. He had done zero prep and we had to take the bed off, and I was afraid it would take more than a day to get the job done. Especially the way we work. So it was not a stretch for him to abandon the project for now. We turned our attention to his all but forgotten Corvair to get it started, after sitting for a year or better. That took us all afternoon. We went to get a new battery and then messed with the carb and the fuel pump, got it running rather nicely. Gave it a good wash. We'll plan more time later to do the axle job.
Uneventful trip there and back. Had a nice visit. His wife fawns over me like I'm a child, always giving me food and snacks, drinks, always checking up on me.
I'll catch up a little here and go have a bite. Hope everyone's week is going well. Happy Birthday to Monty.
if you didn't mind the column shift/bench seat combo.
That, and no AC, are always deal breakers for me. I don't care if it's the rarest car in the world, as I don't buy vehicles based on that.

Kinda the polar opposite, but that reminded me of the time I put some pennies in the freezer, then just before bedtime I put them under the covers on the wife's side.

Kenneth - It's not always the most comfortable ride coming home from shows or cruise-ins with my '67 that doesn't have A/C, but I'm rarely driving it more than 60-miles one way. Although I'd prefer A/C, it's not a deal breaker, if it were I would have never bought my '67 and I'd already have put Vintage Air in it. As for the column shift/bench seat combo, my preference in mid-60's to early 70's muscle cars would always be a manual 4-speed. However, the tranny style, manual vs. automatic is not a deal breaker for me. My '67 has a column shift TH400, although it has buckets. What is more important to me is the model/trim level and overall quality (mechanical and appearance) of the car. With most nice legit W-30 cars going for $75K - $100K or more right now, this one in my opinion was a steal at $44.9K, despite the column shift/bench seat. I actually loved the dark green and white striped color combo too.
Well, I grew up with people who would build a plain jane Cutlass to outperform a 442 or even a W-30, so those designations are immaterial to me, just posture and bragging rights. As you can tell, I’m “go” as opposed to “show”. Prolly comes from growing up with the car since I got my license, daily driving an old car all that time (AC required where I lived) instead of at some point later getting into the “classic car” scene.

I can deal with no AC, but I like my auto's on the column, and my manual's on the floor. Of course, of my 6 cars, I own three column shift autos, 1 floor shift auto, one floor shift manual, and one column shift manual.
Between the 3 on the tree, and the manual choke and fast idle, I'm just going to laugh at anyone trying to steal and drive it away. Plus, it tops out at 70.
I like front benches as well as front buckets in old GM.
Koda, having AC or not prolly depends a lot on the geographic location. I grew up on the Gulf Coast where AC was essential nearly year round. I didn’t even know cars were made without AC until I met someone in college from Washington who said most cars there didn’t have it. I had a hard time comprehending that as it was so foreign to my corner of the world.
