The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Mornin', folks. Whelpt, the coolfront finally rolled in last nite. What a glorious morning.... We rolled back to the Gulf Coast yesterday to see Huey Lewis & the News at the IP Casino. Da man & his band can still entertain! Didn't get back 'til around 1 this mornin', so I'm gettin' a late start.
Thanks fer da' thought, Jamesbo. We're in about the same boat. I know it's going to come down to takin' it all completely down and puttin' it all back together as if I were doing the job from scratch, but I'm just in denial right now... I was hoping to do that eventually anyway, but when I did, I wanted to clean EVERYTHING in the undercarriage -- not just the brakes and drums. But nuttin's perfect. Need to get dem brakes working to factory capabilities before takin' 'er on a real road trip.
Will check back in soon. Have a great Sunday ---

This would be '70-'71, '72 changes and carries into 1973. A '69 is the same, but the steering wheel is rotated 180°, and there is no rocket on the horn pad.

Hi everyone.
Nice, fall day here in the Greater Stockbridge Area. Gonna be coolish tonight but bearable. Funny, last night it got down to mid 50s, we were in the hangar but with the doors open, and lots of people had to have their heavy coats on. I mean really, it wasn't snowing.
Scot that's the bed off a Deuce and a half. Pretty cool, don't know what I'd do with it. The bed on my truck is a drop side. Those are the ones that are sought after.
Jamesbo what would I do with four of them? Ya I know, what do I do with anything I have.
John those were nice pictures. Wish we'd have a car show that big around here. The Summit cruise night sometimes gets a couple hundred cars, but there's not actually a cruise that goes along with it. It's a cruise IN.
Johnny try a couple rounds of rubbing alcohol on that wheel, it might clean up. Or get your favorite citrus cleaner and give that a try. I have a rally wheel on my convertible and once in a while it gets the typical funk built up on it. Comes off easy with whatever citrus thing I have around.
Friday already. Got a seminar about the early retirement to go to tomorrow before the cruise in, supposed to be nice as well. Happy start of the week to everyone tomorrow.

Hi everyone.
Rush rush all day. Got home late from work this morning, slept a couple hours, went back up to the airport for a meeting, met someone downtown for a little while, then ran down to McDonough for the Monday night cruise in. Didn't want to miss tonight, because Butch Patrick was there. Oh boy, what a celebrity. There had to be over 200 cars there.
So my meeting was about the early retirement. Not really anything I hadn't heard before, last night made it sound all the better. Gotta tie up some loose ends so it works out for me.
Think I'll hit the sack early tonight. Got home and sat down and the unwinding started quick. Have a good night everyone.

Morning all, haven't checked in for a while.
Chilly morning in London today but the weather is quite settled, cold in the mornings and evenings but nice and sunny during the day.
Got a touch of 'man-flu' but hopefully its not fatal!!
Gonna take the Cutlass out for its final trip of the year today. The roadworks have finally cleared from my route to work, so instead of taking an hour to get there it now takes 7 minutes.
Looking forward to my trip to L.A this Christmas, though I still haven't booked my hire car, all the soft top Mustangs seem to have been reserved already!
Hope you have a good day.

Got to get to the grocery store. Have a day all.

No werm
Mernin', all... Since I left my crack-o'dawn job, don't seem to be in contention for no werm no mo. No complaints.
Went for a walk in Ponchatoula Park at 0-Dark-30 this mornin' and got rained upon... prolly the only wet stuff we'll have for another week -- perfect timing. Very overcast, but not really bad. Pretty humid, but temps in the lo 70s right now.
Clint, that's always puzzled me too-- maybe we need hot water coolers? Jamesbo, congrats on the plumbing and mechanical acumen. London, don't be such a strangler. Hope you have a safe trip to da' States and da' left coast.
Mike, did you get Eddie's autograph? We have a couple seasons of The Munsters on DVD; sure were fun when they were coming out; they were the talk of our (grammar school) class. In the modren pic I attached, poor guy looks more like Herman than Eddie.
Whelpt, gotta bunch of errands to run today. Y'all have a real one....

Good morning everyone.
Thunderstorm last night but now it's nice. Still gonna be a muddy mess today.
No I didn't get an autograph. I heard you had to pay for one. I suspect you "bought" the picture and then he signed it. Semantics. He was there with replicas of the Coach and Dragula, on tour touting the 50th anniversary of The Munsters. I think he's the only one left.
Jamesbo what would I do with a car that ran? It would be the exception around here.
John how are the brakes coming?
London you're going to love LA. Lots to do. Warm at Christmas. Luckily I don't live in LA so I won't stand you up at the airport.
Okay gonna get to it. Hope it dries up a little so I can do something outside. Have a good day everyone.

Mike I had a model of the Dragula when I was a kid...thought it was so cool! So, why is it when we have a federal holiday, like yesterday, that I don't remember until I walk across the street and open the mailbox, and see nothing?
Jamesbo you're killing me.
Dan I built the Dragula a couple years ago. Must have been a retro kit. I do the same thing with the mail. Though I heard some places were getting mail. Hm.
Beautiful out. Gonna be for awhile, too. That's good, I need to catch up on my sleep.

Mornin all,
Well, I went for a nice long cruise in the Cutlass yesterday, didnt want to start so I had to jump it, my fault for not having had time to go out lately.
Managed to go through the Blackwall tunnel and opened her right out, I've still got a ringing in my ears!!
Pulled up to the auto shop to get some transmission fluid which I duly purchased.
Sat back in the car, turned the key - and nothing. Dead battery.
I suppose if you are going to be in a dead car then outside an auto shop is the place to be.
Of course I didnt have a single tool with me as I had just cleared to car, so into the shop I go, new tool kit and a new battery. I went with the vision of spending £10 on some fluid and ended up spending £179.99 on stuff.
Moral of the story, don't leave it too long between drives.
Man-flu is slowly clearing, went the the docs yesterday and she says that this case is not fatal, which Im relieved about, had to have two days of my wifes cooking, which is not to be advised, she may be Spanish but she cant cook if her life depedned on it.
Chilly today, but I have still got my shorts on.
Have a safe day..

Good morning everyone.
Steam rolling off the lake this morning, looks pretty cool. Another nice day is upon us!
Got a couple errands to run after the Awful house then I think I'll work on the V8 Corvair. I haven't done anything to it in a long time. My plan is to get the brakes working and then fire it up. If I get it running first then I'll want to take it out, and without any brakes that would be a bad thing.
London I thought you were kidding. I thought Man-flu was on the order of blue flu. Glad you're not fatal. Speaking of the Walking Dead, I read they will be filming now in Texas. Does that mean they are done in Georgia or will they still film here?
Time to hit the road. All my friends have been showing up at the Awful house early lately, hope I haven't missed them. Have a good Hump Day everyone.

Like Mike said nice day

Well, Need to get crack'in daylights burning

Kwik g'mernin', all.... Temp is 20* below what it was yesterday a.m. - hi 40s - very welcome. Spose to get back up into 80s this afternoon, tho'.
Think I'll take another online hiatus for a few days whilst I get some stuff straightened out here. The list seems to grow fatter & fatter 'cause few & fewer things seem to be getting scratched off....
Mike, brakes still suck (i.e., pull bad). I was hoping I'd see some installation error on hardware when I pulled the drums; but it looks OK. I'm gong to have to pull the wheels down completely, order new hardware where available, clean everything else, and put it all back together and see where that leaves me.
I'm guessing at this point it's either one or more wheel cylinders or perhaps a hose (blockage?) issue. There are no leaks, and the pedal feels great, strangely enough.
The shoes and wheel cylinders were replaced before I got it; so if it's a cylinder, it was installation error. We shall see....
Whelpt, enough of the mechanical talk, lest Jamesbo's cage be rattled. Have a great Humpity, Oldsmofriends.

John, make sure the drums are close to the same diameter from side to side.
London, glad you are feeling better, sorry about the mechanical trouble.
Found an old pick of my grumpy old dog. Boy I sure miss him.

Speaking of the Walking Dead, I read they will be filming now in Texas. Does that mean they are done in Georgia or will they still film here?
Its strange that the two lead actors, The Governor and Rick Grimes are both English actors, not sure how their accent sounds to you but its strange watching TV here when they are in some film or series speaking 'proper' English
I would just love to be able to get on as an extra in The walking Dead. I did suggest my wife could do it, they would save a fortune on make-up. She told me to behave myself or she would do the cooking again tonight!!
Jamesbo, I took your advise and bought myself a good quality battery tender so hopefully no more problems.

Hump day for most I see.
I guess we have the same amount of work days as you this week. It was Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday so I guess you guys will have to grow a new crop of birds for yours that is coming up?
Been reasonable temps here if you like it cooler, but windier than heck. Don't even need to fire up the leaf blower - wind took care of all that.
Went to the boneyard last Friday and perused the offerings. Plenty of Oldsmobiles raning from 82-96. Some of the Cutlass models even still had complete rallye dashes, and interiors. Lots of good bumpers, filler plastic, trim etc even from the B Bodies. Too bad I don't need any of them. I did pick up a set of good rims for the Saturn. They will be replacing a set that were installed a few years ago but were slightly out of true. Cleaned, sanded, painted then took them to the auto store for mounting and balancing. Cost here is 80.00 tax in for that. Pricy, but at least I'm ready for the snow now. Just have to do an oil change.
London - You have amazing luck to run into that dead battery just outside an autoparts store. Why wouldn't they offer to loan you a spanner to change out the battery? They would do that here - just give them a tool deposit worth more than the tool, and they give it back when you return it. Different rules across the pond I guess. Anyway it's done and good. Should consider getting battery tenders for the other cars that won't be used as daily drivers too.
Clint - was that the pic you posted on FB? BTW, I changed oil in the Saturn back in June when I did all the maintenance work and used 10W30 dino oil. Since then the car has gone almost 3500 miles and used only 3/4 qt oil. No drips or leakages now. Can you think of anything that would make that kind of difference? Oil before was always 5/30 as per manufacturer specs and the car rarely got more than 600 miles to a quart, plus it leaked worse than a soggy diaper. Don't get me wrong - I'm happy that it isn't leaking anymore but I'm wondering if I should just keep it at 10/30 on the next change or bump back to 5/30 for the cold weather. The specs in the owners manual are not really a lot of help given our climate. I'm also factoring that the engine isn't new (100k miles) and likely wouldn't hurt to have some thicker cold weight oil.
John - Sounds like your temps are ideal. Good luck sorting stuff out. On the brakes, if it's not broke..... can the wheel cylinders be rebuilt? There are kits for lots of them at different places IIRC.
Looking forward to Friday. First day of curling practice, team meeting, then first game on Sunday. I wore a hole in my curling pants (right knee) so I guess it's time to drop by Olson's and get a new pair.

Good Afternoon Mornin Friends
Yup, gorgeous day here too
She said thank you
But what a beautiful sound it was I bet
Never heard of a Spanish lady that couldn't flat out cook her hiney off
I don't know how athletic you are, but you should plan your visit to Sequoia, Georgia around the same time they have the Zombie Run near me in Perry, Georgia. Check this out... https://zombierun.webconnex.com/ATL15Z

Hi everyone.
I just read that it was on this day in 1947 that Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier, first time ever. What's funny, the magazine I saw it in was a February, 1997, edition, and I happen to read that on this day.
Also this day in 1965 the Toronado was introduced. Of course everyone who gets the Hemmings Daily read that as well.
And it's a friend of mine's birthday. He's 80.
Work tomorrow, gonna stay up really late and then sleep in. Have a good Thursday see you in the arvo. (maybe that will draw Adrian out)

Evening everyone.
Work is still keeping busy, but I finally had some time to work on the Cutlass.
I think it's ready for a test drive, now I just need a dry day.
The work week is half over!

Mornin all.
Jamesbo, I'll do it if you send the Classic Olds jet to come pick me up.
Paul, I need to get to work on Brit. I still have the ring and pinion to do and it looks like she has a small leak at the fuel tank where the sender goes in. The wife told me I'm getting her out and washing her this weekend because she is sick of seeing her so filthy.
Hi Mike.
Scot, That looks like fun. I'd even lace up my sneakers for that.
Allan, Stay with the 10W30. It'll be fine. Yea, that is him. He was a real good dog. Smart as a whip and would do anything you told him to do.I could put him in a down/stay and walk a 3rd around the lake and call him. he'd come running. Then halfway to me I could say down and he'd drop like a rock. He would have been a great herder but We just had a kid and I was a bit preoccupied to train him to herd.
London, Don't forget Maggie. She sometimes has a hard time pushing her brit accent over to make way for the southern drawl. Every once in a while you hear her say something or move her lips and think "Thats not natural" But boy what a beauty she is.
Well got to go take care of a coon in the trap.

Thanks Clint. BTW I had a gf once that I tried to train like that. Didn't work though. When she was told to stay she'd go shopping.
Jim, just prop it up against the shed. Garden hose snakes a purty sneaky in tall brush. If it's that plastic green hose, put it in the fire pit and watch de very colorful flames.

Hi everyone.
I'll check on the jet when I get to work tonight.
Nice day here, which I saw a lot of because the dogs were very needy. No rain in sight for several days, but it's going to be coolish at night, and nice during the day.
Jamesbo I'll come up and help you but it has to be Sunday or after. Or are you kidding.
Hi yourself, Clint. I want to get out that way but it might be too late. I don't want to get out there and have a huge snow storm in the middle of my visit. Ug snow. My friend would say, oh it will be gone a day later.
Well it's Monday. No telling what's in store, but something will be. Hope everyone has a good evening. One more and it's the weekend.

Evening everyone.
Got home from work tonite and decided that even thought it was raining I was going to take the Cutlass for a test drive. It appears to have working brakes. The brake warning light did not turn on at any point so I might have made some progress.
Hopefully the weather is cool enough to keep the engine temps under control so I can drive a few times before that solid rain starts falling around here. I think the cooling problem has been improved, but haven't driven it much to really tell.
The temperature has cooled a lot and they are calling for light dustings of snow over the next couple of days.
I'll try to be more talkative next time.
Have a good Friday everyone!

Hi everyone.
Beautiful fall day in the Greater Stockbridge Area. Gonna be cold as can be tonight. In the 40s!
Clint the snow doesn't scare me, it pisses me off. Too many winters in the Midwest.
Anybody remember that guy Don who was from South Carolina? I wonder whatever happened to him. I have a feeling he's not of this world anymore. Last we heard, which had to be a couple years ago, his wife had just died and he had several health problems. But loved his Delmont 88.
Paul you've been having problems with the Cutlass a couple years haven't you? Are they that persistent or have you not had a lot of time to work on it?
Okay Night #2. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
