Could one order a HO equipped 1965 Dodge Polara ? I came across one, with a 383 4 speed built in Windsor. Was this possible?

Yes, A 383 was available with a 4spd. Not a bad car, they started to grow a lot larger in 66.

Not if it was a dodge .Hurst did convert a few mopars back then with great success but would not have a H/O on them

 

HO is high output in Mopar speak, I think.

 

This one I saw today had Hurst Equipped on the trunk. I thought it was Hurst/Olds, but my son just corrected me.
What year did Hurst begin?...just read up 1958

 

My Rallye has one too I know it is not stock and should not be on it . Those were originally from when you added hurst wheels or shifters form what I have found over the years and in books.

 

I thought you were asking about the 383/4spd combo. I don't know if Hurst teamed up with Mopar. The placard you saw could be gotten at any speed shop back then for people who put one of their shifters in a car.

 

Somebody probably just put a Hurst shifter in it and added the "Hurst-equipped" emblem on their own. AFAIK, Hurst had no relationship with Dodge in 1965 (although they apparently have one now -- Google Hurst Dodge and you come up with several entries for a Hurst Challenger). At any rate, even if such a relationship had existed, the resulting vehicle would not have used "HO" emblems as that would have designated a Hurst OLDS.


As any Pontiac aficionado will tell you HO means "High Output". I don't believe it means anything to Mopar guys.

It sounds like the question has been answered for the 1965. But in 1970 Hurst did team up with Chrysler for a limited production car. Do a google search for "Hurst 300" and you'll find a white and gold air craft carrier sized car based on their full sized model of that year.

Many years ago before I got bit by the Oldsmobile bug there was one of these in a used car lot that I drooled over for a while. Back when gas was cheap....

I remember. Spinnaker White and Firefrost Gold (same as '69 H/O, I think) with Mopar Rallye wheels, a "TNT" 440 under a big hood bulge and a giant deli-slicer spoiler out back.


I don't know if it was big enough to be an aircraft carrier, but you could probably land a helicopter on the hood!

Hurst and Mopar teamed up in the mid 60s and built the Hemi Under Glass Barracuda funny cars, even before Hairy.

Adding that badge to a 1965 Dodge Polara is lame.

FWIW, 84 Polara 2-door hardtops were built with the 383 4-speed combo . . . and that's only US cars. As a Canadian, if real, it's gotta be much rarer.
