First Year of California Smog Equipped Car

Hi All
In previous posts I had shared with you guys that I have a 1967 442 and an engine from a 1967 98 that both had smog pumps and hardware. Well we may be able to push that back one more year as I have a 1966 Toronado with smog equipment on it's "B" heads. Since I don't know the history of the car, it could have been a retrofit but I didn't think that was required back then. So I think there's a good chance that California built cars may have had smog equipment back to 1966. John

A.I.R. was factory installed on 66-67 Oldsmobiles sold in California. My Fremont-built 66 442 convert also has A.I.R. If you want to talk about rare parts, try to find the correct Calif-only air cleaners for a 66 442 with the L-69 tri-carb option.

I bet if you could find one of those it would sell for $10 trillion dollars at the Barret Jackson auto auction.

I just noticed that! Unfortunately, you're not the only one...

It's a great hobby, I just need to take a deep breath once in a while and remind myself that I am having fun in the process!!!

I hope you were able to get one of those air cleaners a long time ago. I've only seen a couple of the regular L-69 tri-carb air cleaners sell and thought the amounts were mind blowing! John

I think you're thinking of the 66 W-30 air cleaner. The non-O.A.I. L-69 uses individual round cleaners like those on the same-year GTO. The A.I.R.-equipped versions have special bases for air hose attachment. I have the regular ones, not the A.I.R. ones, and frankly, I really don't think the A.I.R. equipment is going to be reinstalled...
