Hello everyone
I've searched the forums but thought I would ask someone who's been there. I'm replacing my rear coils and not sure if I should purchase the standard OEM coils ore a heavy duty set (if available) or possibly 4 door coils. The ones on there now are original and sagging. I've read posts about how the rear ends tend to sit low in the cutlass's and tend to agree with that and would like to have a little more height in the back but also I don't want to sacrifice the ride. I'm also wondering if the 4 door coils would even fit on my 68 cutlass sport coupe? So I'm looking for advice from a fellow olds owner?

I believe the 4 door coils would fit. However, I don't see any reason to replace the coils in the rear with heavy duty or non OEM coils. Especially if you just want the car for a daily driver. I though the Cutlasses always had problems with sagging on one side in the rear. I never heard if this was because of the springs or the frame. I thought it was sort of a mystery.

 

Instead of the cost of replacing the coils you may want to consider air bladders inside the existing springs. Then you can adjust the car to whatever height or ride you are looking for and you do not have to guess as to what may or may not work on your car. I have a 67 CS Convertible with a 455 and I adjust the pressure in the bags frequently throughout the driving season. Good luck.

 

or just replace to OEM and use coil over shocks. I resolved the issue on my 66 442 with coil overs and the car no longer sags in the rear. Also helped with stabilizing.
