Question 80-85 A-Arm cross shafts

Here's one for the books...
On both of my 85 delta 88s there are flat shafts on the driver's side
and
the passenger ones are round like the g body cutlass ones.

Were they just running out of parts in 85? or is there a reason for the rounded one? I mean if it's flat or rounded no big deal I guess as long as the shimming is correct.

I sold my 80 delta in January and cannot check it to see if it is the same as the 85's

Anyone?

Also.... how do I determine the new amount of shims needed If I use 2 offset(flat) crossshafts?

Well, I've seen both flat and round from the factory. There are lots of cases where the factory used multiple suppliers and the parts may have looked different but functioned the same. In all cases, however, the factory installed shafts were not offset. The one you've shown in your photo is an aftermarket offset shaft that is designed to correct cases where the frame has sagged or for whatever reason there isn't enough shimming to properly align the front end. As for how many shims you need - well, that's up to the alignment machine.
