Power steering problems

Ok on my 81 cutlass my power steering went out both the pump and the main pressure hose I couldn’t find the hose anywhere so I had one made out of hydraulic hose and I’ve went through two pumps now one from rock auto didn’t work was defective right away and the other came straight off of another car I’ve bled and flushed the system and I still have no power steering I don’t know if that hose being made from hydraulic hose would make a difference or if there’s something I’m over looking but I’m really frustrated here and kinda at a stand still cause I’m not sure what else could be the issue any help would be greatly appreciated the car does have a hydroboost system

How hard did you look? Rockauto shows availability of power steering pressure hoses for all of the various flavors of '81 Cutlasses. You don't way what engine is in the car, but here's their listing for the 260 V-8.

I'll be if you went to your local O'Reilly's, Autozone, or NAPA, they could get you one as well.

I need one that’ll work with a 5.7 olds diesel that’s what the car originally had in it and that’s what the pump is for I work at Napa and I looked on our parts system and we couldn’t get one without custom ordering it and as far as I know rock auto didn’t show me anything for that

Ok but do you think that’s the issue is that I made it out of hydraulic hose instead getting the actual hose for it

Long as it's the right inside diameter should make no difference. That's what PS pressure hose is, is hydraulic hose.

You've got the PS and hydroboost hoses routed correctly, right?

A member had a similar issue a while back and the pressure valve that goes into the port where the high side hose connects was installed backwards.

that wouldn’t be an issue though if the pump hasn’t been apart would it

From what I understand, all it takes is removing the pressure hose to access the valve. The valve just slips into the hose fitting.

Reese- are the power brakes working? That can help us narrow it down to pump, steering box or hydroboost unit.
