So I bought the Lares 1353 steering box and the correct rag joint and a power steering hose for an 81 Camaro. Everything installed correctly except there is no way I can use or modify the power steering hose to work. One thread here said to cut one end off and flare for use with my stock pump. I can't even manipulate that hose to come close to fitting.

I would appreciate if someone who has used the Lares 1353 to advise me what parts I need to complete this install for both a low and high pressure hose.

I guess I'll try going with the Lee insert adapters and pitch the new 81 Camaro hose and buy a stock replacement. Hopefully that will work for me.

If you can strong arm your car to a tractor/ hydraulic shop most can make up a hose to your needs... Tedd

 

Thanks Ted, just walked out of a Hydraulic hose place and they don't do power steering hoses. I'll search around for one that does.

 

if the 1353 is the jeep box I believe you can reuse your hoses w the lee adapters...check the jeep box thread to be sure the hoses were talked about in there.

 

Thanks guys, I ordered inserts Borgeson 925122 GM O-Ring to Inverted Flare Adapter Set but am now questioning whether the metric thread is "close enough". The whole thing sucks, I should have ordered the standard thread steering box in the first place. Some of these threads can hurt your pocketbook so don't follow this one either.

 

Yes, the metric and American threads are, in fact, close enough. The adapter should work fine.

Thanks Eric, I'll sleep better tonight. I think I'm getting a little punchy from all the wrenching I've been doing lately.

 

So I got 3 adapters in the mail today. Two are the same, presumably a spare, and one has a smaller diameter hole. Would the small diameter flare adapter go on the return hose?

Do you have a Princess Auto near you? They custom make hydraulic hoses.

I just need to know if I should use the large diametered hole adapters for both hoses or use the small diametered adapter for the return line.

 

I'd match the hole diameter to the diameter of the corresponding hole in the steering box body.
If they're the same, I guess I'd use the two big ones.

OK, while I haven't test driven it yet, everything seems fine, no leaks with the adapters and just over 2 1/2 turns lock to lock.
