Jumping the gun a bit re: 69-72 Cutlass...
Looks like I will finally be able to pull the trigger on buying a 69-72 Cutlass around the end of the summer - late August/early September. Just tossing this out there, in case anyone might be thinking about getting one last summer of fun out of their Cutlass before trading it in for something else, or to avoid storing it for the winter.
Feel free to ignore this - and I'll repost when al the planets are aligned. But from looking over the past couple of years, I get the impression that cars that really get me excited don't come up all that often. So I thought if I don't start looking until August/Sept, I wouldn't be in my car until next spring. And I've waited too long already. If the perfect car became available in July, I could figure out how to make things work.
Basically, I'm looking for a solid driver. I plan on this being my daily driver (short commute) from thaw to freeze. It will be garaged at night, but I'll be driving it to work, to malls, in rain... Do not want anything with significant rust, but the body need not be perfect. Would be happy to spring for paint if the price reflected. But a 10-foot paint job that buffs up nicely is fine.
Would prefer 350 over the big block. My top preference would be a vinyl roof, second - convert, 3d - hardtop. I really like Ralleye 350s, but would have to have AC and buckets/console. My priority is that I want the most solid car available to use for a daily driver. If the body/mechanicals are solid, I'd enjoy making interior improvements. But I'm not looking for a project. Exchanged e-mails a year or so ago with a member who had a brown vinyl 69 that EXACTLY fit my bill. Shoulda figured out a way to make that work...
MUSTS:
fastback, non-post body style
buckets/console
WOULD LIKES:
AC - non-functioning fine, so long as all/most parts are there
Color coded sport wheels.
350 engine
Dual exhaust
4-speed would be nice, but acknowledge that would jack up the price.
Numbers matching would be nice, but not a deal breaker.
I'll readily consider dealers, but my preference would be for a car that has been owned and cared for by an enthusiast.
COLOR
Would consider any color combination.
Would prefer not red, but color is far less important than condition.
PRICE
Well, no hard and fast restrictions, but I've been looking for a while and I've seen some very nice hardtops in the $10-12k range, and some verts under $20k.
LOCATION
I'm in NW IN near Chicago, so would love to find something in Iowa/Wisc/MIch/Ohio/etc. But I'd be happy to ship or fly/drive for the right car.
Like I said, I acknowledge I'm jumping the gun, and I apologize for wasting anyone's time. Of course, if you were opposed to time wasting, you wouldn't be hanging around the internet!
