No holes or flat area to put door bumpers. Must be a door from another type of car, but what? Anyone got any ideas on what it came off of? Door hits on inner quarter near where bumper would contact. Pointy near top of door causing tight gap
I'm assuming the scratches inside the door jamb are due to not having any of the weatherstrip or bumpers that are supposed to be installed. See if another member can shoot some pics of their doors for location purposes. They may have been inadvertantly filled.
I was getting ready to install the weatherstrip when I noticed it. I got a door to locate but first I might as well sand down to see what's up. At least it's probably the correct door.
Under those bumpers is a source of rust around the holes. The doors on mine were very thin there and when I re-skinned them I patched the area up and punched new holes. The same may have been done on those and they never drilled new holes.
Got out the grinder. Lots of putty.
Over a 1/4 inch putty. Stopped till I get a less aggressive tool on it. Hard to see in the picture but the putty is deeper than the edge where the metal wraps around and would show metal so it's either dented in or rusted away under the putty. Gonna get a cover on the car and explore deeper I guess.
Yikes, that almost sounds like it may be filler down to the door skin which would explain why the bumper is missing. That makes you worry about what other gems are hiding elsewhere.
Yes I did. The area that I am working on was shaped a lot different. Looked so normal and smooth ,until I got out a magnet I had no clue there was putty. I tapped on it, sounded like the other areas. Good thing I got other doors yet. Was selling them but now I think it's premature. May end up switching and painting.

the rear quarters are new all the way up, driver door looks good but on the list to check now and the trunk lid is new. The seller mentioned changing that door so maybe they fixed what was available.
I remember reading a post on here where the op had a pointy door. he used offshore repro skin. he rounded it off to the correct shape. I would guess that is your problem

That was copper in his revamp thread...I was thinking the same thing!
You may be able to glue the rubber stop to the door if you drill into the bondo and fill the hole/s and coat the bottom of the rubber with glue if you don't want to replace the door.
May make a template from the other door and sand this one down to match it. Then try what you said. May still have to change the door later but don't want to unless absolutely have to. Afraid of paint match issues.
