Dipstick wont fit?

I have watched multiple videos on how to install a new dipstick tube tap it in with a bolt in the top of the stick but looking at the new dipstick tube it looks like the ribs are bigger then the hole in the block?

I put in the exact motor 70 455 olds and this new tube just seems to be the incorrect size for this motor?

I had to slightly file the bulged area to get it to fit into the hole in the block. I have read on the forum that this is very common.

The rib area looks to be much bigger the dipstick hole which makes me think they might have sent me the wrong part .

What size are the dipstick "bulges" ? What size is the dipstick hole in the engine block ?

I did the same. I filed just enough that I could tap it into place. It has not leaked in the 20 years since then.

Every aftermarket dipstick tube I've gotten has the two beads formed incorrectly. On the last motor I built, I had to file 0.010" off of the OD of the beads to match the diameter on the old tube. Once I did that, it went right in just like OEM.

I don't have a microammeter but its clearly bigger then the hole.

I guess ill be taking a file to it and see it I can grind it down to fit.

The beads are supposed to be a press fit in the hole. They are supposed to be slightly larger than the hole. The problem is that the aftermarket ones are too large.

I made a little tool to install mine.
Slip it over the tube and use a slide hammer from below to tap it down into place. The small clamp will hold the tool close to the tube.
The welding rod should be nearly parallel to the nut sides. This photo shows it's a little bent.
