Oil Dipstick Tube

Oil Dipstick Tube
Does anyone know the difference between the long and short dipstick tube for a 1968 Olds 350 engine.
My dipstick tube broke so I ordered a new one from Fusick. they sent me a short tube.
I got the old tube out today and it is longer. Does it matter?
I would think all I need to do is either buy a new longer tube or buy a new dipstick for the shorter tube. Am I thinking right? or is there a reason for the longer tube and dipstick and I should stick with the original one?
Help appreciated if anyone knows the answer to this.
Best Todd

The length? Just guessing...
We need a better write up on this
do a search here and you can find the service manual illustration, but for used parts years later, it's not well suited.
I have a good list of what indicator [per the # stamped into it] goes with what tube [per its length THAT MATTERS- from seat where it contacts the block to the top end.
The CSM offers overall length measurements. The part from the seat down into the engine probably didn't, but certainly CAN vary, esp. nowadays with repro parts. I don't have time to dig into that info today.
I have lots of indicators
tell me your tube's length from seat to top end [NOT overall length] and I can probably cite the correct mating indicator #.

From a thread referenced in that thread:

And it is Written,
"The Oil Level Indicator for the four hundred and fifty-five cubic inch engine shall measure exactly twenty and one-half inches long, from the base of the handle, to the utmost tip. It shall not be twenty inches long. Neither shall it be twenty-two inches. It shall never be eighteen inches, as that is the length reserved unto the three hundred and fifty cubic inch engine."
So sayeth the Chassis Service Manual.

Chris Witt has a part number spreadsheet with dipstick indicator and tube PNs and lengths for the various engines. The 69-73 350s used a different stick and tube than the later 350s, and that early one was discontinued several years ago. I was able to locate one by having a dealer scour the country for probably the last one on the shelf.
Info from Chris's spreadsheet:
Part Number.......Description
419242..........."DIPSTICK [Indicator], 23-1/8"" says PNM. Olds 455 and all big blocks except Toronado
1975 260, 350, 455 eng
69-73 455 [does not say ""exc. Toro""]"
401567..........."DIPSTICK [Indicator], 20-5/8"" [short type]
Olds 68 (Late) - 73 350 & all small blocks exc. Toronado
Mates Guide Tube #401568 = 14.8"" OAL/9.66"" top part"
400712..........."GUIDE TUBE, engine oil dipstick, Olds big block WITH TORONADO PAN
