Apologies if this is covered elsewhere and I am too stupid to find it, but I am looking around at various solid roller lifters and notice a lot of manufacturers list olds and pontiac for the same part, yet others such as comp cams list different part numbers for olds and pontiac?

does anyone know for example if comp cams 859 pontiac roller lifters can be used in an olds (comp cams part number 849) and vice versa?

 

Looks like the oil band on each is in a different spot. You’d need to measure from both the bottom and top of the lobe, then to the oil band on the lifter and next to the oil hole in the lifter bore to see if the band will be in oil flow throughout its travel.

It just depends on where exactly they put the band and how wide it is. They can design it to work for both, at least for stock-ish base circle/lift cams - or not. Even with an "olds" lifter you'll want to inspect to make sure the band will actually see the oil hole and doesn't pop above the top of the hole. Your specific cam can have a big impact on this also.
The size and spacing is darn similar (size is identical, I really don't know the details of Poncho spacing so the link bars may or may not be an issue) so they'll "fit" - it's just a matter of the oil band.
