Reproduction W 30 aluminum intake Does anyone know who is reproducing the W 30 aluminum intake? And if so price and quality? Also which has better performance Edelbrock 04B or factory W 30 aluminum intake?
I can't speak for the performance of the Edelbrock piece but from what I read on other posts here is that the factory W30 intake offers little if no performance gain over the cast iron intake. It's primary advantage is weight reduction.
I don't know if this has gotten any better, but five years ago the repro intakes had some clear differences from original Perhaps this is a good thing. Note the differences in font, character size, and the FIRING ORDER letters. Also note the incorrect notch between the #3 runner and the heat crossover.
As for the original vs the O4B, the original W30 casting is geometrically identical to the iron intake, so there is no benefit in flow, only weight. The O4B has differently shaped runners, but you can't tell by looking at them if one is better than the other. Subsonic aerodynamics is not intuitive.
From what I have recently observed, the cost of the reproduction intakes has gone up to around $1000 from what I had recalled to be around $500!! Anyone else noticed this, or am I just wrong? If this is the case, What is the current market on originals??!

I don't remember new reproductions being that cheap ($500), but they were around $750 for a long time. I got my 71-72 reproduction used from a guy at Carlise for $350. No complaints, but as described above there are some visual differences. Asking prices for originals seem to range from $1500 to $2500 currently.

Thanks, That's good to know as I believe and Joe does too as he has been my pictures, that my 1970 W30 convert. clone came with an original late 1970 "OLDS W30" intake!
At the cost of these repops, your better off buying and original and protecting your investment.
Heck, even the aftermarket Holley's and Edelbrock's are a better investment.
