Rope seal

Does this look like the correct seal for a 66 425. No way that i can pack enough into the groove to keep it from pinching and preventing cap from seating.

You cut the rope seal during install. Make sure you follow the service manual. Here's a SBO thread, your 425 should be similar.

I have never seen a rope seal that you did not have to cut to length. The new graphite ones are a pain to cut. I use a sharp chisel on a piece of steel.

The picture looks like the seal is too fat and won’t go into the groove?

basically …. I took another stab at it today. Figured out that i had to pull on the ends of outer covering like a Chinese finger trap it helped tighten the loose material. From there i was able to stuff it in the groove and pound it down with a large socket. Must be kevlar cause there was no cutting it with a razor. Was able to cut with hd scissors and trim loose / frayed ends enough to push into the groove. Hope for the best now i guess
