Need expert advise on air cleaner assembly
I tried searching through the forums but could not come up with a similar combo.
I have a 1972 Cutlass with a 455, GA heads, headers, Torker manifold, Comp Cams 262H and just switched from a Holley to Edelbrock carb. The 14" X 3" drop air cleaner assembly that I was using on the Holley fit fine, but now with the Edelbrock it requires a 1/2" spacer to clear the linkage/electric choke.
Options that I have come up with are as follows:
1) find a 14" X 2 3/4" air filter element (cant seem to find one)
2) find a 14" flat air cleaner top (current one is convex)
3) find a 14 X 2" filter (not sure if that would flow enough CFM for a mild 455)
With this increase in height the wing nut hits the hood so I am hoping someone on this forum might have a recommendation.

Edelbrock does make, or did, a flat air cleaner. It was black and the edelbrock name was embossed into it.
Or if you can weld, you could cut the convex top off, and make a circular to fit, weld it back together(albeit thats a lot of work if you can buy one for $30).

Ok, I had the same problem, your going to have to find a drop base air cleaner base that will work on an edelbrock without the spacer. I've also used a 2" filter with no problem. There are not a lot of solutions for the edelbrock which is one of the reasons I switched back to a Holley.
If I remember right removing the electric choke will also solve the problem.

What a bout a non drop base . I have one if you want it for a few bucks.also the summit brand flow through air filtr lid is flat al the way across. If you used that with a 2 in. Round filter I don't think you would interupt flow as it also draws in from the top jmo.
