air filter clearance?

air filter clearance?
Hi guys!
I have a 1972 Cutlass S. I am converting from a 350 to a 455. The 455 has an Edelbrock performer intake on it. I have the stock hood with the two chrome inserts. My question is this: will the stock 455 air filter housing work, or is it going to be too tall? Do I need to find a shorter housing?
Thanks ahead of time.

you can put a ball of play dough on the air breather and close the lid just till you cant see it any more then lift the hood back up. then do it again just lower it a little farther. each time look at the play dough to see if it is hitting. do this till you have the hood closed. then you can let the hood smash the playdough and mesure how thick the play dough is and that will tell you how much room is left.

Along these same lines....I have a 67 442 with a 69 455. I just had the 455 professionally rebuilt last summer. The intake was replaced with an Offenhauser manifold. The problem I am having is air intake clearance or lack of. It really appears that the engine sits higher. The motor mounts were replaced with the new install.
I read an a post on another Olds site, in which the author gained 1" of clearance by replacinig the 455 motor mounts with Olds 350 motor mounts. I did find out at the time I replaced my exhaust manifolds with headers, the manifolds on the 455 were those used on a 350. Which make me question if the old motor mounts were from a 350 also.
Can anyone confirm if there is a difference in engine height between the 350 and 455 motor mounts? Maybe I can solve my clearance problem by changing motor mounts. I would need to check clearances for the headers, pan, etc, but might try it if I get an additional 1" topside. As always...Thanks for all your help....Carl

For 1965-1968, there was only ONE P/N for frame mounts and only ONE P/N for motor mounts for the A-body cars. BBO and SBO used the same mount parts from the factory.
