455 build - advice needed

hey there,

finally the block is stripped and the machine shop told me that it just needs a rehone...crank just needs polishing.

goal: as much torque as possible
budget: around 3k $ (w/o heads)

so this is my shopping list so far...only rotating assembly:

- FelPro Rear Main Seal Ford 460cui FEL-BS40032
- Clevite Camshaft Bearings SH1354S
- Clevite Main Bearings MS804P
-
Sealed Power Rod Bearings 8-3345P
-
Keith Black Piston and Ring Kit KB277KTM-STD
-
Comp Cams Timing Set 2113
- Eagle H-Beam Connecting Rods 6735O3D
-
Scat Balancer D-80022

...estimated CR 10,25:1..wanted to go with these babies but could'nt find them in standard bore size

- 4500lbs car
- stock exhaust manifolds
- stock toronado low rise intake
- 4bbl Qjet
- pro comp heads - roller set up
- custom cam by cutlassefi (i hope )
- power brakes / AC
- street/strip use
- gear 3.08
- stock converter (...will change to fit cam)
- stock tire size (15")
- dual exhaust

any suggestions??

Sounds good but I think the IC886's are available in std, I'll check.

And if you're changing main bolts you'll need to have the main saddles rechecked. Just an fyi.

..is it necessary to change the main bolts then?

i always thought you should do this..bolts are 43 years old. why would you recheck the saddles? ..is it about the length of the new bolts after torquing them down?

let me know about the IC886's ...thank you

It is not necessary to change the main bearing cap bolts.
43 years old or 430 years old, they do not deteriorate.

As I said in my post on your other thread, it won't hurt to use the ARP bolts, but it is expensive overkill for the engine you are planning to build.

If your replacing bolts with aftermarket bolts technically you shouldn't have to have the mains align-honed. Pretty sure if the bolts are replaced with studs then its considered mandatory. However, I have replaced bolts with studs on several engines, with no issues, as have several of my friends. Maybe I'm just lucky, however my next engine will get that done. I'm not interested in "rolling the dice" again!

You're lucky.
New upgraded bolts will differently than the stockers. Studs even more so.

hey guys..i'm curious about the clearances (mains, rods, cylinder to wall etc.) ..what do you recommend? (street/strip use)

Deck Clearance with the H-beam rods and the IC886 pistons calculated at: -0.015

i know the machine shop needs to clear the block since i bought h-beam eagle connecting rods....anything else to consider?

oh yeah...and what about the deck height?

i'm planning to mount pro comp heads and want true 10,25:1 CR. don't know about the head gasket...better use a thicker one or the thinnest available?

heres what the calc. says ..i used that cometic 0.027" gasket

.030 over IC886 .015 down in the hole with a .027 head gasket should get you to right about 10.2:1.
