Seeing if anyone knows where I can get a new oil drain plug for my '61 Olds 98. 394 engine. It has the recessed star pattern. You use a 1/2" ratchet with no socket to remove it from the pan. It is a 22mm diameter, with what looks like fine threads. The picture below is NOT the drain plug currently in the pan. This is one I picked up that I was told was correct, but the threads are incorrect.
This is the INCORRECT plug. I am after the same diameter, but the threads must be fine.
Do you have an old drain plug? If so, I'd take it into the auto parts store or hardware store to match to a new one. If you don't have the OE drain plug take that plug into the store and get a few different drain plugs that are close to that one. Make sure you keep your receipt so you can return the ones you don't need.
This drain plug is a really odd bird.
It was used on only Olds V8's from 61 thru 65 except 215's.
It carried factory part number 577646.
You are very unlikely to find one in a hardware or auto parts store.
Your best hope is to find a good used one from someone who has parted an engine out.
Try deadds on this forum, he has parted several 394's.
