Just bought a 71 cutlass. soon to be 442 clone!!
Hey whats up everyone. Im a new 71 cutlass owner. im gonna clone it to be a 442 since i have always wanted one. Hope no one gets mad about the cloning! Does anyone live near LA? thats where you will be seeing me around.
anyway. here are the specs
1971 Cutlass Supreme 2 door post with...455 Engine, aluminum heads, ported and polished, roller rockers, 10:1 pistons, arp bolts, Engle Cam, Milodon gear drive, Offenhouser intake with custom TMP Holley 750 double pumper. Full Mallory ignition with rev limiter and spark control, new electric fan, high flow fuel pump, new performance plugs, wrapped headers with 3" custom exhaust, new dual flowmaster mufflers, McLeod high temp mini starter and new harmonic balancer. Turbo 400 transmission, 2500 stall converter, aluminum drive shaft, 12 bolt rear with 373 gears, posi-traction lockers, steel axles, ladder bars. The original owner had most of the power train built at Inland Empire Performance about three years ago. I have since made a few modifications, such as exhaust, carb, harmonic balancer, starter, etc- mainly bolt on additions. Originally the car was built for nitrous but I took all of it off in favor of a pure gasser (It never had the lines to the bottle ran so I know it never ran with the stuff. Also, I never got around to changing the rear gearing so if someone wants to put nitrous on it, the back is set up for it). Power steering was reinstalled recently to accommodate street tires. 8 point cage. Custom leather seats. Custom dash with Autometer gauges. Cheetah scs shifter. Trunk mounted fuel cell. Battery in trunk. Fiberglass hood with a 4" cowl induction. Weld wheels 15X10" in back, 15X3.5" in front. A brand new full set of American racing wheels (15x7 and 15x10) included in sale for use with street tires, racing harnesses on both driver and passenger seats. Licensed and registered. Clean title. Smog exempt. Body is very straight. The paint is about a year and a half old and there a couple bubbles that will eventually need tending to. I am in the process of taking the paint shop to court as I spent 4k on the house of kolor screw job. My problem but I want you to know the history. I tried capturing the two largest bubbles in the pictures below. New headliner. Runs great. Has been run only 8 times on the quarter mile. Car runs 12’s. I have rented the car out on numerous photo shoots and everyone loves it. It is currently on the Budweiser web site, "Fast Inc." on MTV, music videos and numerous fashion trades. Its a money maker!

There is nothing wrong with a clone but in my book there are rules......When someone is really interested in the car and wants to know all the details come clean and say its a clone. Never try and sell a clone as an original.....The last rule is to do it right so no-one can tell...One of the worst cars to see is a 442 clone still showing Cutlass features.....just my opinion.

In 71 there were 442 emblems on the fenders and trunklid. If they are not there the first flag is raised. In 71 there was still an emblem on the glovebox door and not Cutlass. There is different paint striping/decal on a 442 verses a W-30 442. The 442 should have a notched rear bumper for dual exhaust. These are the obvious dead give-aways that its not a true 442. Of course the grills are special to the 442 as well with an emblem there.

Westsiiiide!
Hey man, I just bought a 72 Cutlass S and am also in the LA area (Beverlywood). I think I saw your car on ebay, correct? The only place I know of in terms of meetings, etc. is Bob's Big Boy on friday nights. I know that car would get a lot of attention there
Anyway, PM me... I'd love to see your car and maybe pick your brain a little. This is my first muscle car (other than a newer Vette) and I'm really excited about turning it into a pro-touring car... although I'll be the first to admit I'm not as knowledgeable as I should be about the car as I should.
