Difficult To Find Parts For 68-72

Still on vacay, but can't get 442's off my mind. In your opinion, what are the most difficult parts to find - in good used condition- that are not currently being reproduced by the aftermarket?

I'll start '70 fenders, W-27 rear ends,....

68 trunk lower lip trim that says OLDSMOBILE, verts & coupes!!! Tilt wheel for 68s. Parchment interior plastic, 68-69. 68 442 hubcaps, I want to say P02 or P03s. Cant dig up the images for the P options. The one with 8 vents around the outer diameter.

Rare? The tea strainer that sits in the top of the stove pipe from right exhaust manifold to air cleaner on a 1970.

Or how about an original R71S battery, used in 1970 442s.

Great list. Thought of a few more myself - 72 T3 headlamps in working order, correct style rally pack temp senders (repos look way wrong), 70 cruise control turn signal stalks.

I think someone is reproducing that strainer thing. I was about to order one when I looked in my hot air tube and eureka! - it was still there.

Do you have a pic or specs on that R71S battery? I was planning on just using a group 27 in mine

69 deck lids are not that hard to find on the west cost.
D heads are I have only seen two set in my life. one 69 442 w30 one hurst olds
F heads I have seen lots of as there were quite a few real 70 w30 on the west coast.
I think the 69 is the hardest car to find in a clean unmolested state.

Yeah I looked in all provinces. I could find them, but all were rotted in the usual places and i didn't want a patched bumper. Had to go south of the border for one that was still in one piece. With duty etc... it was pricey. But to this day it's the best part of the car.

He said not reproduced. They've been making 68 & 69 rear 442 bumpers (and fronts) for over two years.

The "tea strainer" was repro'ed. I bought one years ago, I forget where, but I think Fusick. Correct oil senders for gauges are HTF.

My notes say the R71S was 74 Amp Hours, 3600 Watts. I can get you more specs if you want (like dimensions, CCA, number of plates, etc), as I have a Delco Energizer Catalog from back in the day.

However, why substitute another battery when you can buy a reproduction R71S from Antique Auto Battery in Hudson, OH. Ignore their on-line application guide, as it's riddled with errors. Call them and tell them you want an R71S in the sealed version (unless you like dealing with acid and refilling often). Mine's lasted maybe 5 years now and the car hardly ever gets driven so the battery hardly ever gets charged. I don't use a trickle charger. I don't even disconnect it during the winter.

1972 Door straps

Seems the end caps are reproduced but I cannot find the straps anywhere. Ridiculous prices for good used ones.
