Hi all,

I'm sure this has been covered before, my apologies! What are my options for a divorced choke set up on my 68 442 with stock Q-jet and Edelbrock Olds performer intake manifold? I figured I will have to run a cable thought the firewall. Any other cool options?

You could swap over an electric choke on the carburetor. I know Joe P. made a post suggesting how to wire one up. John

The original carb has the linkage for a divorced choke, so the conversion to electric on that carb body is quite a bit more involved. The easiest way to do this is to get a 1970 Olds Qjet with the hot air choke, jet it to match your original, and swap the hot air choke coil for an electric one.

 

This was a thread from about 9 years ago when I had a similar (not exactly the same) question. I ended up going with a 70+ Q-Jet and an electric choke

Definitely consider getting a different Quadrajet with a hot air choke. You wouldn't want a manual choke on your Oldsmobile, that's the same thing lawn mowers have.

When was the last time Oldsmobile sold a car with a manual choke? Before WW2?

 

Thanks guys! You always come through! Maybe down the road I'll consider swapping the carb. What about just running a manual cable through the firewall? Some type of electric servo would be slick too. Maybe a business idea?
