Intake Manifold

Hey Guys,

Couple of questions in one this time....This is my first project car and I'm a novice mechanic so bear with me....

First is I'm going to take off the heads and replace the valve guides, seals, rockers, etc. In order to take off the head, will the intake manifold have to come off as well?

If it does, that brings the second question of if I wanted to upgrade to an Edelbrock series but wanted to keep my 4BBL Q-Jet w/ hot air choke intact, would that be possible? If so, anyone have an idea of which model I should be looking at?

intake will need to come off first, distributor can stay in, make your life easy and mark the plug wires prior to disassembly, take lots of pics it does't cost anything and keeps you sane

Ebrock performer will save weight over stock iron 4bbl intake but does not add much if any performance from what I know. It has a port for the choke or you can block it with the included plate and convert the Qjet to an electric choke. The performer RPM is suited to a more modified engine.

I have a Performer (#3711) on my '70 350 and a Performer RPM (#7111) on my '72 350. Both quality parts but I can't tell you I feel a big difference between the 2.

If you're just looking for a little extra and are going to keep mostly stock internals, I'd say stick with the Performer (#3711). Edelbrock even recommends using an OEM carb with the manifold so you should do well with your Q-jet. There are provisions for hot air choke.
