442 on-dash tachometer wiring ?
442 on-dash tachometer wiring ?
Hi Forum,
maybe that question is neither new nor quite hard to answer, but I found nada on the web and my european experiences were also not helpful...
Attached you see the photo of my on-dash tach for the 1966 442 (will sit left/top on dash).
I found out, that GREY is the backlight, but which colour is the tach-pulse, the 12V and the ground..? Shouldn´t there be 4 wires or is the mounting the ground? I really like the fact, that the circuit-board shows the colors and not their meanings..
really different from my european 60´s cars...
Thank you !
Alex.

On a '68 tach the brown wire is the pulse wire from the coil and the case is ground...on yours the black wire should be ground and the pulse wire is brown
(I just checked the '66 shop manual pg. 15-46) there should also be a 2 amp inline fuse in the pulse wire near the tach...Merry Christmas...

Thank you Yellowstatue !
So that means, that this type of tach is not needing any +12V wire, just coil-signal and ground ? Wow, these cars are amazingly simple..
Merry (early) Christmas to you, too !
