Good question. I am getting ready to install pertronix in my dist. Had not thought about the Tach.. Tach is new too so I don't want to burn it up!

HEI distributors have a 'tach' contact. Wire it to that.

As Allen noted, thie is extremely easy. The factory HEI distributor has five male spade terminals in the cap. Three connect to the wire harness from the distributor body. The remaining single terminal on the left is the power (BATT) terminal. The one in the right is the tach feed. This terminal provides the same tach signal as the coil on a point-style ignition system. Just wire the factory tach feed wire to this terminal.

Sorry to jump in but is the tach input on the MSD 6AL a safe place to wire the tach lead to for a factory tic tac toc? I read the directions and they talk about some ch*vy applications needing a capacitor or something. I'm guessing Olds may or may not be the same

Can a tachometer be bench tested

Is there a way to bench test a 65 442 tach. I have tried two tachs and both show no signs of working. The needle moves freely when moving around but not when hooked up. Steve
