Im newbie here and i need some help, i bought this car few days a go may be you can tell me if a real 442 and whats i have it???

i dont have the motor, the old owner don't want to sell it because he have a another 1972 olds project.

The 5V on the cowl tag does indicate W29 trim (all 442 markings and equipment).

As far as the rest of the info on the cowl tag:

04A = assembled first week of April 1967
67 = model year
3 = Oldsmobile division
38 = Cutlass
17 = Holiday Coupe (two-door hardtop)
LAN = Lansing assembly plant
20816 = Fisher Body sequence number
980-C = black vinyl bench custom sport front seat
Paint C = provincial white lower body color
Paint 2 = black vinyl top

The car's colors don't match what these paint codes indicate.

below the "980" it looks like "EF." I don't know what the F means, but E = tinted windshield and windows
2E = air conditioning
2B = heavy-duty 3-speed floor shift transmission
2T = power antenna
5V = W29 trim (442)


From those photos, it looks like you've got your work cut out for you in getting it back to being a running, driveable car. Good luck.

 

as it is now from the pictures looks like the steering column is wrong, the motor mounts are for a chevy engine, the boxed lower control arms and sway bar are missing and the rearend doesn't look right. Not sure what it is. Would be a rare car if it was all there. Factory 3 speed 442 don't see many of those.

 

Definitely looks like you have a big project on your hands... The reason the owner wouldn't sell the engine is because it most likely was a Chevy engine, based on the engine mounts shown in the photo... Are your plans to keep it Olds powered? Good luck with the project, you should be able to find a lot of info here to assist you along the way...

This car past for many hands, at these moment the last owner don't know what's it original and what's it modificated.

But i love the car and i want to do a nice driveable car.

Welcome to the site. I see a lot of potential for the car but also as the others said a lot of work. One disadvantage you have is location as shipping costs for parts would be quite expensive.

 

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you can find a good Olds engine for your 442, which must be very unusual in that part of the world. Wonder if one of the former owners of the 442 might still has the original engine? You would think the owner would jave left the Olds engine, but unfortunately Chevy is more well known and many think it is the better engine - one of the reasons many swap the motor. Maybe ask the prior owner if he knows what happened to the original drive train. Even if it needs rebuild, better then a Chevy engine.

 

Not to mention whole engines!

 

Technically, someone could drive to the States from Ecuador to get an Olds engine instead of shipping it, if one cannot be found there. lol

I've been to Quito, Ecuador. It is such a beautiful city. Surrounded by mountains.

 

I know Peru has a decent number of American cars.....depends on the import regulations at the time, I think. No idea how Ecuador was. There's a guy on Facebook from Peru who finds the neatest stuff, so it may not be a bad idea to connect the two of you if you're on FB.

 

I've been to Quito as well, and Guayaquil back in the late '80s. While I don't remember much about the cars I saw in Ecuador I do recall seeing a lot of older full size North American cars in Peru and Chile but it seemed that a lot of them had received engine transplants to 4 or 6 cylinder and diesels. Probably using whatever was available/affordable to keep the family car moving.

 

Hi thanks, well the big problem in Ecuador is the import laws. It's prohibited import used auto parts, the only way for these cars it's remanufactured parts but the parts must see like new.

Anyway the good part is i work in a Cargo Agency so i work with freight forwarders all the time
