70 442 W30 (clone?) value?
Hi,
i just bought a restored really mint 70 442 4-speed. Seems to have all the right parts (correct head stampings, OW-tag, etc) but has no build sheet so it could be a clone...where would you see the value of this car at the moment?....just wanted to make sure i did not pay too much...the car is burgundy with black interior, rear wing, 3.91 rear axle

IMO: If it is the car of your dreams you didn't pay too much.
A lot of people are worried about the perceived value of their car and how well they did when they purchased it. If it is the car of your dreams and you didn't buy it to flip it then it doesn't really matter what you paid. I have paid as much as a thousand over book value in order to get the exact vehicle I wanted. It may not have been the smartest thing but I got the car of my dreams as a result.
Keep the following in:
You're going to continue to pay for as long as you own it.
If you drive it too much and put visible wear on the car it will depreciate.
If you don't drive it you'll have leaks and fuel delivery issues.
It will cost you to own, register, store and insure your new prize.
Believe it or not, whether you drive the vehicle or not, it will require maintenance.
Unless you have a dealer license you will incur all of these expenses annually.
I flip cars and occasionally I lose just because of the current market conditions. I buy a car at a great deal and find that no one can really afford to buy it at the time. I sell it at a loss and two months later the market goes back up.
But if you really want an honest opinion, post pictures. And show any and all defects, blemishes and damage.
And you're in Germany. Of course you paid a little more than what I would have to pay for the same car. LOL

Equipment, like 4-speed or 3.91 gears, can't be determined without a build sheet but knowing the axle code on the differential may help eliminate the possibility that it's original to the car (because 3.91 is more desirable than, say, 3.23).

I bought the car in Canada...it will be a few weeks before it arrives...i have the VIN at my office and can post it tomorrow...i know what it means to have classic cars...i maintain a collection of about 47 classics...and no, i am not a dealer but a carnut with too much money....;-)...i have only sold about 3-5 cars in the last few years...i also have a 72 442 W30 Automatic car wich i believe is genuine but also does not have the build sheet. I believe it is real because the car was originally delivered to Switzerland and here in Europe nobody knows what a W30 is....so nobody i going to clone one....if i open a used car website in the US and look for 442s there are supposedly more W30s than regular 442s...

Sorry, it is a 71....not a 72...and the owner told me that GM Canada does not have this information...to be fair i only paid what a nice regular 442 would go for...and yes, the swiss car does have a km/h speedo...

The car in the video is not a 4 speed. It has a Hurst Dual Gate shifter which is for the 3 speed automatic. OW code transmission is the correct code for a 400 turbo from a 71 w30. If the vin derivative matches the car and it's not a reproduction tag you can be pretty sure the car is a w30. As sure as you can be without documentation anyways.
