I need some help with tiring sizing. I just bought a set of 4 American Racing Outlaw II rims in great condition for $120. They are 15 x 8 and 5 on 4-3/4 with a 3.75 back spacing. I am going to be throwing on some BF Goodrich Radial T/A's which I will be ordering from Tire Rack. What size tires can I get away with? I want wider tires on the rear. As of right now I am thinking 215/60R15 on front and 245/60R15 on rears or 225/60R15 front and 255/60R15 rear.

It is going on a 68 Cutlass Supreme. Drums all around. Any advice is appreciated thanks.

 

I don't think the 215/60 will work on the 15x8 rim. A 235/60 would work better on the rim. Then you can go 255/60 or 265/60 in the back. I like 275/60 in the back.

 

I am running the original wheels/hub caps right now which are 205/70R14. They are cracked from being dry and too narrow which scares me when I am driving at around 50-60mph.

My main concern is the wider tires not fitting correctly in the rear. Will 255 or 265 clear the back without sticking out further than the body? Looking to have it tucked in nicely with a fitted aggressive look. I am not sure what combo to go with.

I have SSII rims on my Cutlass, all 15x7. I have 235/60 on the front and 255/60 on the rear. Looks to me like I could go bigger in the rear, maybe 275 if I had at least 8" rims out back. Hope that helps.

 

For those of you who are interested in seeing how they ended up looking. 235/60R15 on front and 275/60R15 on rear. Needed to upgrade to Hijacker air shocks on rear because I was experiencing really bad rubbing on even the slightest dips. The front shocks and springs need to changed out next and it will sit right. Nice and smooth believe it or not.

Too late now but the tire size is not the problem. The wheels BS is too far out causing the rubbing. 8" wheel with about 4.5 BS on a 275-60 is about right

 

The back spacing was the issue. I was told they were 3.75 which would clear but that was wrong. The rear driver side tire was rubbing the edge of the fender on dips/bumps and it actually shredded the tire a little bit. Lesson learned. The shocks need to be changed out all around so it was an opportunity and reason to take care of it. Thanks for the comments.

 

By going to 15's,did it throw off your speedometer reading?

 

I haven't noticed a difference with the speedometer.
