245|45r18 & 285|40r18

Here's a pic of my '72 convertible with 245|45R18 on the front & 285|40R18 on the rear. The wheels are Bandit U109 from US Mags in 18x8 and 18x9 with offsets of +8mm front and +1mm rear (in backspacing language that's 4.5" front and 5.25" rear). The 285s fit nicely in the rear but would look better with less backspacing to push the wheel a littler further outward. The fronts rub on the sway bar just a little at full lock.

Hey Gang...

Here's my recent wheel/tire update. 1964 Ninety Eight CSC. Stock brakes/hubs. Managed to squeeze 255/70R15 on 15x8" Chevy truck rally wheels. The front fit fine with no rubbing, but I had to shave a bit of metal from the trim on the rear wheel skirts.

Great looking car, very nice with the matching gold painted rims. I want to put 15" SS2 wheels on the rear of my '65 Cutlass and was rapt when I saw that Vintiques had made a version of their own, nice and nice and wide too! Sadly iI can't find any of these rims on the web or anywhere. It looks like Vintique no longer exist as an entity themselves and even when you use the www.wheelvintiques.com link in this YT video it takes you to a Coker website. So no Olds SS2 rims anymore, anuwhere. It looks like they are no longer being made. Damn it{ Where did you get your rims and how long ago.?

The rims in your photos are not American Racing Polished Salt flat wheels are they?

1965 Oldsmobile 98. The rims are made by Vision Wheel and they are the 54 Cheyenne series.

Fronts: 18x8 with 4 1/4 backspacing.
Rears: 20x9 with 5 1/4 backspacing.
Tires are 225/55R18 and 255/40R20. Plenty of room to spare. About 1 inch each side of back tire. Fronts can turn lock to lock with no rubbing.

Your olds looks great.
it makes it harder to decide if I should get 17" wheels or 15" .
From your pictures, the 15" look more like old school which is cool
Thanks for sharing

New wheels for the starfire.
15"x7" retro mags
215/60/15 tires
Satin outer rim with gun metal grey centres.
I wanted a conservative look.

Very beautiful Olds Starfire 1965

TIre size is small dont' have a problem with the height of the oil pan above the road?

Original size was diagonal tire 8.25 x 14 corresponds to today's radial tire size 235/75/r14 - you can get them American Classic

There is ample clearance underneath the car.
The tires do look small and I probably would have
been better with a 65 profile.
Down here its hard to find 14" tires which is why I changed wheels
to 15". Just easier to get that tire size.
If it helps anyone out I went from 14" wheels to 15'
Tires 225/75/14 to 215/60/15
The car is now at least 30mm lower.
