Wheel descriptions

Have been noodling around the web looking for a simple definition and explanation of 442 wheels. What are the differences of SS1, SS2 and SS3 wheels. Just looking for a link or a direction and starting point. I’m a computer Neanderthal so it’s probably something simple but it escapes my limited ability.

Well first off the SS wheels are not 442 wheels - they were optional on most all Cutlass models. The standard wheel even for a 442 was a plain steel wheel and the SS wheels were optional equipment.

These sites have good info:

Thank you. From the long long distant past I seem to remember my 69 Cutlass S had SS wheels but that was almost 50 years ago. I’m just trying to get smarter and wiser about the choices.

SSI wheels are the magnum 500 style wheels similar to ones ones used by Chevy, Buick, Dodge and Ford.
SSII SSIII are the Oldsmobile specific wheel. They came in 14-6, 14-7 and 15-7 earlier versions had the bolt on cap and later had the snap on cap.
The SSII are argent silver and the SSIII were lower body color.
