Tell Me About These Rims

I think they're off an eighties car. I'm guessing they are 5x5 SSIV's. I can't find much info on them at all. There is only one trim ring but I think Pontiac makes a close one that will fit

I do not think they are the early 70's polycast SSIV's.

Is there any market for these and if so, how much are they worth?

They are Polycast rims 1st used on the 1971 Full size Olds if memory serves me. Not all that rare even though production was short. 5 inch bolt pattern. Not sure about value?? Guessing 50 bucks a wheel??

Mike, those are the 71/72 Polycast SSIV wheels. They are quite rare in good condition and were only offered during 71/72 I'm pretty sure. They were offered only on the Delta 88 models for those years and 5x5 is the right pattern for the heavy duty wheel/suspension. They are also 7" widths?

They are worth waaaay more than 50.00 each. A good set of 5 would likely be at least a Franklin for each wheel, maybe more. These wheels are extremely hard to find now.

$50.00 a wheel is about right.

I don't think these are the plastic coated Polycast rims. I may look at them tomorrow. I think they are all steel. They've been painted. That's why they look so clean.

Mike, if they've been painted they have been stripped of the polycast finish probably because it wasn't in good shape. They're still only a 2 year production, I looked that up. Only cars I saw them on were the Delta Royale's

Those look like a decent set of the SSIVs. I've always considered getting a set for my 71 98. Too bad I'm in the 'Stan right now, otherwise I would consider buying them.

The search option came up with this thread:

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...iv-wheels.html

I've had other polycast wheels and the poly compound was black with silver paint. I'm guessing yours were restored due to the paint coming off. I've seen a few sets for sale over the years, but not seen an actual sale price. I'm with Allan, thinking $100 each for nice ones is closer than $50 each. Not a huge market but these were a rare option. Also they're really heavy, so shipping will add significantly to the costs

I bought them tonight. They are definitely the 71-72 5X5 15x6 Polycast SSIV's. The polycast is in good shape. The guy painted them because they were faded and marked. The spare is the original color so with a little cleaning I should be able to match the paint. They have two different trim rings that are both junk. The center caps are very nice. I'll decide what to do with them in the next couple days.

Post more pics once you get the spare cleaned and painted. I think that was money well spent Mike.

Ok, I thought you already owned them. Nice score. What to do with them is a no brainer...you need to buy a 71/72 Delta Royale vert with a 455

I searched around a little on flea-bay today but no one really gives all the specs on the trim rings. Do you have a link to the ones that fit? The trim rings are 16 5/8" OD, 13 1/2" ID and 1 7/8" or 2" deep. If not, no big deal. I can make a few calls and send a few e-mails out. Fortunately I have two trim rings so I know the size that works.

Never understood why these trim rings get as beat up as they do, but most you find are badly road-rashed.

Find a set of 88-93 Chevy pickup 15" Rally Wheel trim rings. Those or the originals are all that will fit due to the narrow space between PC section and the outer rim.

You can also use trim rings from a 77-79 Thunderbird/Cougar with Turbine Polycast wheel option. They are very narrow and only cover the outer edge of the wheel, leaving the space between PC and rim open.

Agreed. Wheel without centercap or trim ring is worth $50-75 each. The trim rings especially are where you'll turn loose of the money. Worth noting that the trim rings are also used on 1977-79 Ninety Eight N82 Custom Chrome Wheel option, so there's another source- not that a nice set of N82's are any easier to find.

Put it this way- I have a couple sets of good trim rings and $50 per ring would not buy them.

They'll make any 71-76 full-size Olds look like it's ready to go dancing.

One of the best-looking cars I've seen in many years of looking at these wheels was a white 1971 Royale Holiday Sedan. It made that big heavy car look awfully light on its feet- like it was ready to leap. Shoulda bought that old beast off that little finance car lot all those years ago...
