Need help with wheels

Not sure what these are off of and what they will fit. Could someone decode them please? Bottom picture is of the wheels before being sandblasted. Thank you

Might want to post a picture of the entire wheel. It they're the Oldsmobile SS II/III wheels then they have 5x4.75" bolt pattern.

Thank you. Do you know of they will fit a 1969 442?

Every Cutlass/442/F85 built from 1964-1988 has the 5x4.75" bolt pattern, so yes.

What is the widest tire that can be mounted on a 14x6 Olds wheel? I'm looking for 60 series. I thought the wheels I bought were 15's. Didn't realize it until after they were sandblasted that they are 14's.

Rule of thumb is that the tire section width should be within +/- 1" of the rim width, but if you followed that, you'd be limited to a 185 section width. I'll confess that in my young and stupid days I ran 245/60-14s on 14x6 SS II wheels. The problem with the 245/60s is that they are too small in diameter and leave a LOT of daylight in the wheel wells. Personally I'd run 225/70-14s which are about the same outside diameter as the OEM G70-14s

The default for these cars seems to be the 225/70 R14 in BFG or Cooper. The H/O in the picture has those. They have enough traction. Previously, they were on 23 year old BFGs and did not have enough traction. The other H/O I have has a more powerful engine, but less gear, and just laughs at the 20 year old repro bias tires if you boot it. Point being, a set of these should handle most enthusiast's needs unless you want to do pro touring in the rain, or have a street legal drag monster. I personally think 60 series tires are for Corvettes.

So, it sucks that I spent the money on 14's that I assumed were 15's. I really want to put 15" Rallys on my car so I've searched out a legit set. More than I want to spend but it is what it is. Can someone give me some insight on what these might be off of? Year ect.? Thank you

Thank you Joe. How do I tell what they are without having to ask? Is there something in the OEM Stamping? Would take the Snap On Center caps that I could buy from Year One or another aftermarket company?

You can tell by the big snoot in the center. It is 75 and newer, and is a snap on center rim.

The older rims do not have the snoot, just a hole, with 6 little holes for bolts, and they take the bolt on caps.

To use technical terms, here are "snoot" (top) vs "non-snoot" (bottom)

Also for future reference, here's how to tell 14" from 15". Ignore the fact that 14 is bolt-in and the 15 is snap-in. The difference to note is the width of the rim section outboard of the center, as shown.

Is there a way to tell exactly what size a Rally Wheel is that has a tire mounted to it? I found some 15's with Tires on them but the guy's not sure if they are 15x7 or 15x8. Thanks

All factory SUPERSTOCK 15" wheels were 15x7. If they are aftermarket then all bets are off. The only way to tell is to measure them, and it's the measurement between the bead seating surfaces that matters, not to the outer lip. If you run a ruler through one of the holes, you can probably get close enough to tell if it's 7" or 8".

I meant are there any distinguishable markings such as the actual size stamped anywhere. Thank you, Joe - Do you or anyone else know if the small 5 inner chrome triangle shaped trim pieces are interchangeable between 14's and 15's ?

Yes, the trapezoids will fit on all as they are the same centers.

Also, the markings are on the hoop, inside the pressure area, so you can't see them with a tire on it. Put the tire on concrete and see if the edge of the rim bottoms out. If not, figure out how high off the ground it is. Stick a yardstick in a hole to concrete, and look at it from the side and subtract that first little bit if any. Like Joe says, you should be able to get close to inch integers.

Can someone decipher the date codes on these wheels? I had asked about something like this before and I someone posted how to tell the codes, but I can't find my post about it. Thanks for any help.

The bezels, and in fact the whole center disk stamping, are the same of 14" and 15" SS II/III wheels. Of course the center disks are different for snap-in and bolt-in centers. Also the bezels changed in the 1980s to squared-off corners. They still interchange.

What years are these from & as stated above, I'm sure they will both fit a 15" wheel?

Every single SS II/III wheel for RWD applications accepts either bezel.

Thanks Joe - I was just wondering what year each trim piece was.

Square corners are 1980s, the others are 60s-70s.
