Coker Redline Wide Ovals Installed

Had a few posts recently about replacing my old Goodyear Eagle GT II Tires, and thought I'd share what I went with and how it looks and rides.

New Tires are Coker FR70-14 Wide Ovals, which have a similar look to the original tires that came with the car, but are radials.

The Coker's are a bit narrower due to the wide oval design. They ride really smooth compared to the Goodyear's, my dash no longer raddles on every crack in the pavement. I would say the ride is not as sporty, so it depends what you are looking for. These tires will also accentuate issues with rims that might be a little out of balance. Tire shop had to use heavy weights to dial them in, but my SSI rims did have some issues. But so far so good, although I have not gone over 60 MPH yet.

So completely different look (stock 60's vs white letter 70's), smooth ride, not as performance oriented. Lots of compliments.

Plus I sold my GT II's for $250 on Craigslist ! Took the smarts out of the steep price.

Car looks like a proper 65!🙂

You're not the first to have balance issues with the Cokers. With current tire technology I don't understand why that is. Not only the redlines either.

Looks Amze-*****!
I know the SSI’s didn’t come on this year…but I love them.
Nice choice.

Those tires really look good on your car with the black paint and those wheels. Very nice.

I like the "Red Lines " look on your car. Black car sets them off nicely. Wheels look good for this install. I had balance issues with my Coker Red Lines tires also but playing around with the air pressure will help some. I also got rid of my SSI's and went to 14X7 steel wheels and things are very much quieter on my 66 Vert.

I'm going to follow your lead and get the Coker Wide Oval Redlines for my '66 F-85 4-4-2, steel wheels and dog dishes. I'm hopeful that the balancing issues are more related to the SS1's rather than the tires. For what it's worth, Coker site does say, "Designed and manufactured in the USA, using new molds and materials, ..."

Firestone Wide Oval Radial | Redline - Redline Tires - Styles - Tires (cokertire.com)

Just need to decide between the FR70-14 (~215/70R14) and GR70-14's (~225/70R14). The GR70-14's are ~26.4" high, vs ~26.7" for the factory 7.75x14's, and ~25.9" for the FR70-14's.

Years back I had some Diamond Back Red Lines made for the 67. Received several positive remarks. Doesn't Coker makes this brand as well?

Coker and Diamond Back are separate companies. Coker makes their tires from scratch, and Diamond Back applies a redline (or other line) to a mass-produced tire.
