Suggestions for '46 98 Coupe Trunk Support Rod
My car is missing the lift support rod on the trunk lid. Very unlikely, but does anyone have a spare for an '46 98 Custom Coupe?
Any idea if a modern gas strut would handle the weight of the trunk lid?
I was thinking I will probably have to make a locking dog leg arm.

That rod is exactly the same in a Buick from 1942 to 1948.
Another option if you want something more modern is a gas filled cylinder off of a modern hatchback or SUV.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I like the original lock rod style, I have the same kind on my '38 Dodge and they work great. I will continue searching for a possible GM match.

Dennis, thank you very much for your research. You did much better than me on Ebay, both supports look promising. The NOS unit looks extremely close to the correct dimensions, but possibly a little long.
The one for the Buick, hopefully a Sedanette, looks like this model has the exact truck lid as my 98. I will contact seller for open and closed lengths.
Does anyone have the cross reference for the Chev 4114965 part number listed as a support?

Jerry,
Thank you for the measurements and photos. I have heard back from both sellers on Ebay and yours and the 2 others are basically the same open and closed lengths. As you suggested it would probably best to go with the C body Buick one.
Thanks again for your assistance.

Thanks again for the help
Ended up buying the 46' Buick one that Dennis found on E-Bay. Cleaner her up, painted it and installed. Has to be the same unit as the original, as it works perfectly
