Snapped a trunklid torque rod 1966 98

Cruising along happily this morning I had a trunk deck lid torque rod snap on me in my 1966 98 with the heavy deck lid. So I put in a carefully saved spare, but it doesn't have enough spring rotational force to life the lid anymore.

So I _could_ potentially adapt one or more of the modern gas cartridges. But that's kind of a pain. And wouldn't look factory. And would probably interfere with the convertible top.

Or I was thinking since the part is just a specially bent piece of steel (iron?) rod, do you think I could get a local metal shop bend me up a pair? I have the originals and could even get them to set just a bit more spring in the rod so it's done for good.

I've been through this before but spares for a 66 98 are almost all gone...

Thoughts?

I just happen to have a good set from a 4 door. Should be the same as a 2 door but not sure about convertible? what is your car? They lift my parts car lid real good. $80 shipped if you are in the USA.

Looked up the part numbers in an old crash manual and 66 98 convert is by its self. In addition the 65 98 convert and the 67 98 convert also list different part #s.
