I've got a 1961 F85, sedan. I've had many offers over the years from different people wanting to buy her. No matter the offer always turned them down. Unfortunately I'm in a financial situation where I'm having to consider selling my baby. I know not may of this model were made in 61, and even fewer are left... but I'm not 100% on what she's worth because until now I'd never considered selling. I'd like to get every penny I can but don't want to highball myself out of a sale. So please if I could get some opinions on the value of my beloved Oldsmobile.

All original runs great, I am the third owner and have had the car for 9 years. All chrome and glass is intact. Original interior and paint. Very minimal rust. This is the last year they made the 215 aluminum block V8. Car has brand new shocks and tires all the way around, two electric fans have been added along with a new thermostat, but I do still have the original "propeller" fan. Also have the original owners manual and shop manual. There is one small three inch ding in the front left fender, other than that body is straight.

Without seeing pics it's hard to say. But for a 4 door sedan in solid restorable driving condition, I doubt you could expect to get much more than about $2-3000. There's just not much demand for these cars, even the 2-drs. don't bring big money.

Pics would help a lot, 4 doors don't bring nearly as much as the two doors but they are starting to inch up a bit especially with the latest generation that has grown up with mostly four doors there seems to be more of an exceptance to owning one of those

Why the electric fans is the first thing I would ask if I was interested. Overheating problems?
Mileage?
The price quoted sounds about right if the body is really decent and it's all there.

Wasn't the 215 V-8 used from '61-'63?

Electric fans were added because I lived in Las Vegas and in the 125 degree summers, with stop and go traffic were causing the car to overheat.

The odometer stopped ticking at 72,000 miles and hasn't been driven much since then. I'd have to say it's got 76,000 at most.

I'm under the impression that the 215 ALUMINUM BLOCK V8 was not put in the F85s after 61, but I suppose I may have been misinformed.

The two pictures above are all that I've been able to scrounge up (digitally anyway) hope it gives you a better idea.

I'd agree with this. The Old Cars Price Guide puts the value of a '61 F-85 4-door sedan in #4 condition (solid driver needing restoration) at about $1800. In #3 (car show quality but not showroom quality). it jumps to about $4000. While your car may need some things, from the pictures you've posted, it looks to me to be in pretty good shape already in many respects. So something in the $2000 to $3000 range sounds very reasonable.

Hang a price tag of $3500 or $4000 on it and see what happens.
