Power steering pump rebuild.

I had seen an ad for a company that would rebuild Power Steering Pumps.
Saw the Ad in Olds Magazine. Now I cannot find Ad.... anybody have a good turnkey rebuilder ??
More concerned about bearings and general fitness . Most of these rebuilders install seals and then paint the unit.
Suggestions...
Regards,
Fletch

Fletch, I've not used this vendor but several guys on this site have and I've only heard good things about Chip's work.

I had my steering box rebuilt and the ratio changed and the pump rebuilt by Chip. The work is totally satisfactory and the turnaround time was not too bad. (I forget exactly how long now-it was a couple of years ago) The work was not cheap but I had no other estimates to compare with!

Chip is very reputable and an Olds guy. I have never heard anything bad about him. He did a great job for me.

If it's the pump that you want rebuilt, try an exchange unit from NAPA for about $40. (you keep your own reservoir) I started with just a seal kit, but went the exchange route to get the warranty. Don't forget to flush the system with new fluid when you get it back together.

Thanks to ALL for the follow up. "powersteering.com" was the company who ran the Ad.
Called chip.... I will send him the pump. Napa no longer handles the vintage pumps.
Thanks again,
Fletch

That's interesting, I replaced the pump in my '71 just a few months ago.
Were you looking for an older application?

57 Olds power steering fluid

I am just re-installing my 57 Olds power steering unit. Does anyone know what is the best fluid to purchase and install, since the shop maual states " Hydraulic fluid" , which is the same spec. for the trans.

I have used Hydromatic fluid, with "Red Line" additive.
Hope this helps.

57 olds power steering fluid

Fletch: Thanks for your response. I have looked at automotive "chain store" and could not find just regular hyromatic fluid. Could you tell me where I may find this fluid, along with the " red-line" additive? Also since you have a 57-Olds, Do you know of anyone that may have two spinner style hupcaps in VG condition? two VG condition fender rockets ? Also looking for a wonder-bar radio in working condition.

Thanks, John

I Have not looked at the trans can lately, but I think it is also classified as Type A trans fluid. Red line is sold at hot rod stores etc. I use a small amount in the power steering.
Spinner caps require clips. I would use Fusick.. expensive but correct and good quality.. I believe You must have 14 "wheels .
I had my radio rebuilt in Oregon.... Radio Doctor... very good work.. no Wonder Bar, I remember when they were new..... did not work so well.. Old radios do not have the range, newer radios have., thus old wonder Bar's seemed to search alot.
Now that I have said that... 10,000 Wonder Bar owners will correct me !
