headlight switch

I'm looking for a headlight switch for a 42,46 or 47. Part number 1995026. My rheostat is broken and dash lights won't work. Also does anyone know if the switch for the glove box light is a mercury switch? It looks like a fat short fuse holder and I have power to it and the light works if I bypass the switch. Would anyone know where to get one of those. Thanks

Also this one, but it says it's for a 48. Looks the same to me, but not sure if it is.

Try "Chevs of the Forties" website. The chevy headlight switches of the 46-48 era may be the same as your olds. Ive gotten a lot of stuff for my 42 Olds from them by comparing the parts.

x2 on that plus their service is good. I live about 20 mi. from them and go there several times a year. Sometimes it works that Chevy parts work on 60 series Olds and sometimes not but its worth a shot. I am going there this afternoon to compare some door handle hardware for my 47 series 60.

Whatever headlight switch you get wire it in with a Bosch type relay meant to handle the higher current load. It will make your headlight switch last a lifetime. With the relay your switch will have about a 1 amp or less load on it rather than 10 amp +/- load that it gets if wired the factory way. Lots of information on the Internet about wiring a headlight switch with a relay.

Jerry -- I got all of my door handle hardware and "software" for my 42 model 66 from them. They used the 42 Olds Handles as well as the rest of the main body shell hardware and trim for the 46 Chevy. Anything that affixes to the main body shell of a 42 Olds is same for the 46 Chevy. Its amazing that nobody has ever assembled a cross-reference list for all of these pieces. You can hardly anything searching for 42 OLDS , but it is all there for the 46 Chevy. And X2 on them being great folks and great to deal with. I even got door latch pieces and door latch springs for mine!!

Its a mercury switch on my 42 Model 66. Mine works. maybe your mercury has leaked out or dried up and your circuit remains open all the time? try Chevs of the Forties for this too

I guess it´s a 1947 dash... I have the dash only for customizing my 1947 Chevy Fleetline Aerosedan.
