Trying to find rear qtr panels for 56 Olds 88 2dr hardtop...looking for the section between the door and wheel well. Found some from a 54. Anyone know whether they will work? Thanks

I think that front part of the quarter panel is probably the same but can't say 100%.

 

X2 .54-56 I believe should work ,but what I believe + $1 will get you a Sweet Tea @Mc Donald's. The problem area would be the area around the perimeter of of the fender skirt.The fender skirts and wheel opening on '56 Olds are the same as '55 4dr. Hardtop,but different from '54 And '55 2 dr. Hardtop. Hope you can find exactly what you need from a '56,but if not send me a picture of the damaged area,and we can go from there. Do you have access to a '57 Bel Air 2 dr. that you could do some comparing and measuring.Rustrepair.com has these panels for a '57 Bel Air 2 dr for under $100 each.Just might take very little modifying.

The wheelbase opening is different on the 56. The 54 and 55 are the same.

 

The actual wheel lip area (only about 2" wide)is the same as a '55 4 dr. Hardtop (both ('56 2 dr. hardtop and '55 4 door hardtop use the same fender skirts.Then you would have to fabricate the the flat 20" or so out of sheet metal.I would recommend you check out www.rustrepair.com and look at the ones for 1957 Bel Air 2 dr..AT under $100, it might save a lot of time. Looks like you are going to need rocker panels too. I think I have a repro set of those if you do. You might try Dessert Valley Auto Parts or CTC Auto Ranch for the quarter panel. They won't be cheap but will probably be less than all the metal fab required.

 

I restored a '56 Chevy about 20 years ago. It sure was nice to pick parts from a catalog when needed. Only real (crazy) men tear into an old Oldsmobile.

 

Sometimes a parts car is your best solution especially if you need additional parts. Unfortunately the parts that you need are the parts that rust out first.... Tedd
