55 88 convertible dual exuaste questions.

I have a 55 super 88 convertible.
it has dual exuaste that exits downward just behind the rear axle. The frame has been cut for this exuaste.
The exuaste system is all there but has rusty holes through out.

My hope is dual exuaste out the rear. Quite no glass paks . I understand that the 56 fuel tank is shaped to accommodate duals.

Beyond this i welcome experieces, insight and ideas.

Thank you.

A good muffler shop can make you pipes that will run out the back. If you want all the pipes pre-bent and ready to install, check with Waldron Exhaust.

We, at least I, can not provide you with solid answers to your question without deciphering what "exuaste", "Quite no glass paks" and frame is cut means?
I no comprende hombre. Some clearer English and some pictures may help?

No point in being sarcastic. The guy is just trying to get some help. If you knew anything about a 55 Olds, you would know the frame has to be cut in two places on the X member on the left side to get the exhaust pipe through to the muffler and the tailpipe from the muffler to the back of the car. It is pretty obvious he doesn't want glass packs because he wants the car to be quiet. Those were some cheap shots you took. Not necessary.

As mentioned, just go to a local exhaust shop and see what they can do for you. You might even be able to save some money this way because exhaust shops sometimes carry "house brand" turbo mufflers you could use. If not, the Dynomax mufflers seem pretty popular on our site for a sound that's not too aggressive.

I actually put 2 45" Thrush glasspacks on my 71 98. I went through a"hot rod" phase and have yet to correct some things on that car. You wouldn't want Thrush glasspacks, they're obnoxiously loud. Good thing Uncle Scam destroyed my hearing in the Army.

Mine was a narrow dual exit (first picture), I dont have a undershot of mine but one just like it (second picture). I know Fusiks gas tank has better indents for dual exhaust but I have no experience with it.

That sounds like a great project. I have heard the same about the 56 tank giving more room for duals out the back. If that fits it could save a lot of trouble with the frame cuts. I am aiming for a quiet setup too with no glass packs. I would like to hear what you decide to go with.

The difference is the 56 was the first year dual exhaust were available on an Oldsmobile. Even if they did not come with dual exhaust, the frame came with the cuts and probably a different gas tank. I had duels on the 54 I had and used the Waldron kit. It is different with power steering and the left side exhaust pipe snakes it's way down around the steering box which is huge. I never heard of a 56 having a different tank but it makes sense. I had the 54 tank and it was not a problem. Even with a 56 tank, the X member in the frame has to be cut.
