47 Trunk Lock Info Wanted

My 47 convertible, 60 series, came to me with just a bare trunk, hinges and the arm that locks it in the open position. I am trying to gather all the stuff I need for the rest of it like the emblem, handle, lic. plate holder/light and the locking mechanism inside the lid.

I really need some pics of outside and inside so I can identify what is missing and any leads to those parts. I have found the emblems and a handle or two on ebay but don't want to bid unless I know I am getting the correct stuff. I have not seen the inside locking mechanism anywhere yet. It seems like 45-47-48 parts are pretty interchangable in some models/years. Is it the same with trunk parts?

I'm hoping members with these models can set me in the right direction. Thanks for any help.

I will try to take a photo of the mechanism on my '46 for you. Interestingly, it has no hinge or spring assembly.

When you twist the handle on the outside is causes the latch mechanism to swing back and up (against the lock plate which I didn't photograph). Does this make sense?

Dan, makes perfect sense. Ingenious mechanism. Now I have to find an operating one and a handle and a latch plate. Do you know if the other type handle operates the same internal mechanism?
Thanks very much.

The follow up to this thread is that I located and bought a handle and lock which turned out to be from a 47 4dr. Doesn't come close to fitting the holes in the 47 convertible trunk lid. There must be different handles/locks for different models. I know there are the 90 degree shaped handles and the 'T' shaped handles. The only pic I have of a 46-48 convertible shows it with the 90 degree handle (handle is 90 degrees to the shaft that goes into the lock). In addition the rubber piece that came with the handle I bought is imprinted "47 4 dr." which further suggests there were different handles for different models even among the 90 degree shaped handles. Anyone with more information on the handle variations by model and body style could sure help out. Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,

Sorry I missed your request for a follow-up. I forgot to subscribe to this thread to give me a reminder, so I forgot. I have bad memory. I am not surprised about the different configurations. Looking at the FSM that I have it shows different handles too. I hope you can get the problem worked out though.

Thanks for the further information Dan.

FSM??? I guess I am not up on my Olds vocabulary. Please explain and if it shows which handles and locks go with which model and series, could you send the information pertinent to the 47 Convertible Model 66.

Finally, I was going to put a pic of the rubber piece on my post this a.m. but couldn't figure it out as I kept getting asked for the http:// where the picture was. The pic is in my puter in the 'My Pictures' program. Any help there appreciated too.

Jerry

Thanks Pat and Dan. I will continue looking for the 90 degree handle and related outside trim that sits at the proper angle for the convertible trunk lid which has less of a slope than the 4dr. So many parts to find, So few 40s Oldsmobiles out there...

To upload a picture you should use the advanced option and from there you will find four (or five) empty slots for file locations with a button to the right of each which is marked 'browse'. Click on that button and you will be able to browse to your picture location (similar to using windows explorer). After selection of the picture you should click on the 'upload' button. Be sure to take note of file size limitations. Good luck.
