1955 Olds hydramatic shift lever grommet

The grommet on my hydramatic transmission shift lever has deteriorated and needs replacing. Where can I buy this piece? Thought about adapting a nylon bushing for the purpose,

I'm not sure of the grommet you are speaking of a picture would be nice. Have you contacted Fatso automatic transmissions they may have what you need.... Tedd

If it's the one on the lower lever near the bottom of the steering column, the group is 4.042 and the part number is 563843. (Used 1951-1956). I don't know where to get one. Tedd's suggestion might be a good place to start. The nylon bushing might be a good idea if you can find a substitute or fabricate one if you're handy in the machine shop. This place has some:

Went to the hardware store and bought nylon piece and adapted it to the trans shifter arm and it works great. Thanks Ozzie
