Hello all, my name is James Groome, AACA, NCRS, National Camaro Club, National Woodie Club member. I came home from being born in a 1968 442 coupe White over Blue with SS1's. Our family also owned Cook Chevrolet Oldsmobile in Bristol New Hampshire from 1959 - 1972.
And my mom currently has a white over black 68 Cutlass S convertible, so we have a long Olds History.
Anyway back in 2015-2016 we did some work on a 1922 Olds Super Sport V8 with 2769 original miles - included are some photos.
This was the first known useage of the term Super Sport in association with an automobile. https://goo.gl/photos/kXe6MyNVbzdnYE1Y6
The car also has an Aluminum Block V8 with cylinder banks bolted to the block- block was cast at the BOHN foundry inside of the OLDS plant in Lansing.. Bohn was a truck company which olds some how (from recievership or bought out) acquired and if not mistaken used the foundry until the 1980's.
The paper over the linoleum floor covering was still intact on a couple of floor boards as the car had carpet installed and was snapped down.
Welcome and what an amazing Oldsmobile. That is quite an automobile history you have there. I never knew the Super Sport name went back that far and have never seen a picture of that engine. Do you belong to NAOC?
What an amazing time capsule and with only 2769 miles that has to be something of a record for it's age. Thanks for sharing the history and pics. Here are a couple of pics from the dealer showroom album, they were certainly a big engine for that frame (lucky the block was aluminium)
