1948 headlights

Ok, I have a 1948 Olds coupe Series 66 with a 12V system and the headlights do not turn on. They've always come on since I bought the car in early May. But, when I pulled the switch to turn them on, I got nothing. Running lights come on in both switch positions, same for dash lights, just no headlights. I'm having a hard time accepting that the switch just went bad, but I guess it could be culprit. No fuses burned out either, any recommendations?

Were 6 volt bulbs replaced with 12 volt bulbs when the conversion was made? If not they probably just blew with over voltage. You can check them with a long wire from your battery and see if they light up without getting involved with your dash switch. Also check your floor dimmer, if it went south sometimes it will get 1/2 way stuck and no juice will go to the lights... Just a few thoughts.... Tedd

You can also just check for voltage at the lamps with a meter or test light.

Thanks Tedd Thompson and oldcutlass, I'll give your recommendations a try and see what I find out.
