1979 HO w30. Will this fit

Hi folks
I have a 1974 Oldsmobile 350 engine I am adding a Buick 1977 TH350 transmission. Ordered torque converter for a 1974 olds 350. Picture is the specs from torque converter. Will this all play nice. Planing on install next week.

also what is a ring gear that does not come with the torque converter. Do I need a new one or can I use the one on the car now.

thanks for any help.

Some engine families have the starter ring gear as part of the converter. GM is not one of them. If the stall speed is close to what the factory had, and the converter is made correctly it should work fine.

Would a torque converter for a Oldsmobile th350 also fit into a Buick or Pontiac th350 of similar years
or are there more surprises

Yes, ASSUMING this is not a TH350C with the lockup converter. Since the TH350C didn't come out until the 1979 model year, that should not be a problem if your trans really is from the 1977 model year. The second character of the VIN derivative stamp will prove the model year.

His data sheet says 1397 RPM stall. I have no idea if that is close to factory or not, but it’s way less than I would use. 1800 RPM would be my minimum, but I’m performance oriented.

I find the factory converter flashes around 1600 rpm, makes a lazy launch with ypur factory 2.73 gears. As said a 2000 stall will increase launch a noticeable amount. Sounds like nothing is stock in the driveline, make the 79 H/O more fun.

All parts collected and in the hands of my mechanic install Monday.
The mechanic is very familiar with this install and has done many. Hope all goes well.

Same here. I would think a stall speed of 1400 would be pretty sluggish.
